Abstract

Abstract. The development of the times and the introduction of several new teachings into the Toraja area made many changes, specifically the understanding of symbols in the traditional rituals of the Toraja people, one of which is the tau-tau symbol. Tau-tau is one of the heritage symbols that was previously used by aluk todolo adherents in carrying out the rambu solo’ ritual. This paper will analyze the sacredness of the Tau-tau symbol in the implementation of the solo sign ritual (death ritual) in Toraja from the perspective of aluk todolo. Tau-tau is a sculptural symbol of a work of art made of wood, then carved according to the form or appearance of the deceased person in question. This study uses a qualitative research method that is descriptive in nature. Searching for research information will be carried out through literature studies and also through interviews with several parties who are considered competent and have knowledge about the tau-tau symbol in the implementation of ritual rambu solo’. The theoretical approach will use the theory of sacrality from Micea Eliade. The results of the study show that basically the symbol of tau-tau has a sacred value for the Toraja people who adhere to the original belief of the Toraja people (Aluk todolo), they worship and worship tau-tau, because they believe that dead ancestors will be present in the symbol after going through a series of rituals. or ceremony and turn into a god (membali puang).

Abstract

The presence of many beliefs and practices in society necessitates the inclusion of moderation education as a crucial component in individuals' lives, with one approach being the incorporation of local knowledge. This is crucial for fostering social cohesion. This dissertation examines and presents an overview of a specific aspect of the Tallu Lolona philosophy, specifically Lolo Tau, as a means of imparting religious moderation instruction in the lives of the diverse Toraja community. The research methodology employed is descriptive qualitative, namely in the form of a literature review. The findings indicated that the significance of Lolo Tau in the Tallu Lolona philosophy represents a cultural value derived from indigenous knowledge, which may serve as a foundation for imparting religious moderation instruction. The reason for Lolo Tau's reflection of lofty human qualities, such as compassion, honesty, and generosity, is derived from his own character, as well as from other individuals, ancestors, spirits, and the surrounding natural environment. The duty to preserve concord with other people is indissoluble from a duty to the Creator. The findings of this study suggest that religious moderation education should not just rely on interfaith dialogue or religious organizations, but may also be enhanced by including the positive qualities found in local wisdom.

Abstract

The knowledge of oral tradition as a local wisdom in Toraja society today is starting to decrease. Gradually, it is being displaced by the knowledge and teachings of religions such as Christianity and through modern knowledge. This problem is certainly something that needs to be addressed. Efforts are needed to remind Toraja people about their oral traditions so that they are not lost or forgotten. With this effort, it is hoped that oral traditions can continue to be practiced in the context of the life of Toraja people who are plural in terms of beliefs. This paper focuses on building a construction of local theology based on oral tradition, namely through Karapasan (peace/harmony) and Kasiturusan (community participation) in an effort to maintain interfaith community relations in Toraja. The research method used is qualitative method and Clemens Sedmark's theory of local theology. The results obtained show that Karapasan and Kasiturusan contain values of peace, unity, tranquility, mutual attention, and mutual cooperation. The oral tradition can be a building of local theology that needs to be kept in mind and practiced in the journey of life of the people of Tana Toraja in the midst of various different belief backgrounds. In the end, a good and close relationship between one another is maintained.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis paper will explain how the fading local expression manasumo raka, which has been replaced by religious-based greetings, can be used as a source of oral tradition-based theology of friendship between communities. This research uses a qualitative method. The research results and conclusions of this article show that manasumo raka is not just an ordinary greeting in the life of Toraja people, it contains elements of friendship, kinship that refers to openness, as well as an expression of anti-ego that is very distinctive as the identity of Toraja people. This phrase is a symbol of love in an effort to meld various differences in society, one of which is differences in beliefs or religions. Indeed, building relationships regardless of background is part of the concept of friendship in Christianity and Islam, as well as practiced and taught directly by Jesus and the Prophet, so it is important to preserve and pass on to the next generation in the lives of Torajans wherever they are. Keywords: Manasumo raka?, Interfaith Community, Theology of Friendship, Oral Tradition.
