Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ low ability to identify facts and opinions in argumentative texts. This condition caused students to experience difficulties in distinguishing information presented as facts or opinions based on the content of the text. This study aimed to improve students’ ability to identify facts and opinions in argumentative texts through the implementation of the Make A Match model assisted by Flashcards. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles involving 35 students of class XI-F05 at SMAN 1 Jekulo. Each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation and assessment and analyzed descriptively and comparatively by comparing the results at each stage of the study. The results showed an increase in the mean assessment score from 61.20 in the Pre-Cycle to 78.14 in Cycle I and 91.57 in Cycle II. The learning mastery rate increased from 31.43% in the Pre-Cycle to 60% in Cycle I and 100% in Cycle II. The implementation of Make A Match assisted by Flashcards helped students identify facts and opinions through card-matching activities, discussions, and providing reasons based on the text. Pedagogically, the implementation of this model provided students with opportunities to actively identify information through matching, discussion, and explaining reasons based on argumentative texts.
