Abstract

Empiricism is a branch of Western epistemology that is based on experience and discourages reason. According to empiricism, the source of knowledge is experience or empirical. Reason is not a source of knowledge; instead, reason is tasked with processing knowledge gained from experience. The aim of this research is to find out hadiths about the life of the Prophet which can constitute epistemology as science. This research uses a descriptive method with a literature review. Thus, this research concludes that the application of Islamic epistemology based on the life of the Prophet is proven in the Muslim hadith no. index 2336 about the wrong story of the Prophet to date palm farmers. This hadith is a tribute to the Prophet because of his expertise and ability in the professional field. In other words, the Prophet's hadith shows that the only people who understand agricultural issues better are farmers. Judging from the asbab al-wurud hadith, the Prophet was born and raised on the barren Arabian Peninsula. Therefore, the Prophet only expressed his opinion without having experience in farming dates. From this experience of the Prophet's erroneous opinions, lessons can be made for farmers, as those who understand more about the world of Islamic boarding schools are the kyai and Islamic boarding school administrators.

The process of human creation is explained in the Qur'an and hadith, including the stages of embryonic development in the womb according to the 4th Hadith of arbain. In addition, there is an explanation of the four levels of destiny that must be believed, as well as the redaction of the hadith that explains the process of human creation and the granting of destiny by Allah. Hadith Arbain 4 explains the process of human embryo development in the womb, starting from the stage of nutfah (sperm) to the blowing of the spirit. At the stage of spirit inhalation, Allah determines human destiny, including sustenance, death, charity, and happiness. Although destiny has been written, humans still have free will to do good or bad. The text emphasizes the importance of understanding the messages in this hadith and applying them in daily life. The implementation of this hadith can be done by developing gratitude, understanding destiny, respecting human position, and optimizing potential and responsibility. Thus, an understanding of human creation and destiny in Islam can serve as a foundation for individuals to live life with full awareness of the destiny that has been set, but still be responsible for their actions and choices fertilization.

Abstract

Hadiths that prohibit women from traveling without a mahram are often understood literally, without considering the socio-historical context in which the hadiths were revealed. This understanding has sparked controversy particularly in its application in modern society, which has undergone significant changes, such as improved travel safety and advancements in transportation technology. These changes necessitate a new approach that not only acknowledges the authority of the hadith texts but also aligns them with contemporary life dynamics. This qualitative research amploys a library research method. For the analysis process, it adopts Fazlur Rahman’s hermeneutic approach known as double movement, which empahasizes the importance of contextual understanding of hadith texts by considering the circumstances of the Prophet’s era nad their relevance in contemporary conditions. The findings reveal that the prohibition of women traveling without a mahram in the hadith was a response to the socio-historical conditions of that time, such as security concerns, travel risk, and the patriarchal culture that dominated Arab society. In modern contexts, these factors have significantly changed, especially with the advent of transportation technology, improved travel safety, and shifting social norms that support gender equality. Therefore, a literal approach is no longer relevant for rigid application. This study asserts that using Fazlur Rahman’s contextual approach allows these hadiths to be reinterpreted, resultingin a more relevant and inclusive understanding.
