Abstract

Chromoblastomycosis is a slowly progressive granulomatous skin infection caused by several species of black fungus such as Phialophora verrucosa, Fonsecaea pedrosoi, Rhinocladiella aquaspersa and Cladosporium carrionii. A case was found of a 51-year-old patient with a main complaint of a reddish, uneven lump, occasionally itchy, but not accompanied by pain in the right arm. On anatomic pathological examination, microscopic results were obtained in the form of epidermal skin tissue preparations that appeared hyperkeratosis, acanthosis, pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia. Intra-epidermal abscesses were seen with an accumulation of neutrophil inflammatory cells, lymphocytes, histiocytes and groups of epitheloid cells that formed granulomas. There was no sign of malignancy. The conclusion from the results of anatomical pathology readings is that there is a fungal infection (chromoblastomycosis). Treatment is given by oral itraconazole.

Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic skin inflammation with a strong genetic basis. In the skin of psoriasis patients, there are changes in the growth and differentiation of epidermal cells. The term psoriasis comes from the Greek 'psora' which means itching. Psoriasis is a chronic skin inflammation characterized by well-defined erythematous plaques, rough scales, layers and silvery white in color, especially on the elbows, knees, scalp, back, umbilicus and lumbar. Initially psoriasis was thought to be a disease of abnormal proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes. Psoriasis precipitating factors can vary, including infection, topical irritant agents, and systemic steroids. Precipitating factors are usually involved in the initial manifestation of psoriasis or lead to an exacerbation of the disease. Psoriasis is currently known to have a close relationship with comorbidities such as psoriatic arthritis, obesity, cardiovascular disease, non-alcoholic liver disease, metabolic syndrome, and inflammatory bowel disease that can worsen quality of life and reduce patient life expectancy.

Abstract

Acne Vulgaris (AV) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder in the pilosebaceous unit. This condition generally manifests as papules, pustules, or nodules especially on the face and can also affect the upper arms, trunk and back. AV is ideopathic, but can also be caused by increased sebum production, hyperkeratinization of hair follicles, colonies of Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) bacteria and inflammatory processes. Some of these causes are related to risk factors as triggers, such as food factors, use of cosmetics, and psychological stress. AV is one of the most common dermatological conditions worldwide with an estimated 650 million people affected by this disease. The study of the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) reports that AV attacks around 85% of young adults aged 12-25 years. Based on gender, women suffer more from AV than men with percentages of 69.7% and 30.3% respectively. Treatment of acne vulgaris is based on the level and severity of the acne. Treatment can be divided into pharmacological and physical therapy. Pharmacological therapy is the first line of treatment for acne vulgaris, it can be divided into topical and systemic treatment.
