Abstract

Mobile legends is an online game that is very popular among all circles, be it children, teenagers, or adults. The game is a five-on-five multiplayer game with each person using one person. In the game there is a message feature provided by the application itself with the aim of communication between players both inside and outside the game. However, the message feature is abused by many players by throwing harsh words at other players. They say these words because they feel upset and angry about the results and the performance of others. This study aims to find out whether the harsh words can affect the players in the game and in their real lives. This research uses a mixed research method, which uses a quantitative approach and a qualitative approach. Starting with a quantitative approach where researchers give questionnaire questions to respondents. Furthermore, the qualitative approach is by analyzing and identifying the answers given by respondents and identifying the situation of respondents directly. From this study, it was found how often they heard and used harsh words in the game. As well as how often they hear and use these harsh words in real life. These harsh words are enough to affect them, but they still maintain their speech in real life and in the game.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of bipolar phases, namely manic and depressive phases, on the use of the words ‘life’ and ‘death’ in bipolar survivors’ communication. The research method used was qualitative with Likert scales to measure attitudes and perceptions towards stigma in the various bipolar phases. The results showed that bipolar phases influence survivors’ language use, where manic phases tend to produce positive connotations towards the word ‘life’ and depressive phases tend to produce negative connotations towards the word ‘life’. In addition, the social environment also influences how bipolar survivors perceive the use of these words. These findings support previous research on the impact of mood disorders on communication processes and provide additional insights into how bipolar phases influence word usage in the language of bipolar survivors.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of parental and community support in promoting English language learning (ELL) in rural schools. The study adopts a qualitative approach with two complementary methods: a phenomenological study and a case study. The phenomenological study involves semi-structured interviews with 20 rural students from different grade levels and 10 parents from different socioeconomic backgrounds to understand their lived experiences of ELL and the challenges and benefits they encounter. The case study involves a detailed analysis of one rural school that has implemented a successful ELL program with strong parental and community involvement. The case study uses multiple sources of data, such as observations, documents, and focus group discussions with teachers and community members, to examine the processes and outcomes of the ELL program. The study reveals that parental and community support can have positive effects on students’ ELL outcomes and opportunities, such as motivation, achievement, confidence, exposure, and access. However, the study also identifies some challenges and barriers that limit the potential of parental and community support, such as lack of resources, knowledge, skills, time, and trust. The study also highlights the diversity and variability of parental and community support across different contexts, such as grade levels, socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnic groups, and regions. The study also suggests some implications and recommendations for policy makers, educators, and stakeholders who are interested in enhancing ELL provision and quality in rural schools.

Abstract

In this sophisticated era, technological advances have contributed to the phenomenon of bilingualism. Easy access to various content on the internet and social media has a new impact on the language acquisition of an individual, including children. Children are active users who access digital content, including English cartoons. Research conducted by Trota et al. (2022) and Alghonaim (2019) shows a significant effect of English cartoons on children's English language acquisition. Departing from this, the researcher conducted further research on similar influences on children who had mastered two languages before being exposed to English cartoons. Data was collected through direct observation and interviews with parents of participants. The research was conducted in Sarabau village, Plered sub-district, Cirebon district, with children aged 5 to 6 years as the object of research. The data was then carefully analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The results showed an influence on the acquisition of sound systems, vocabulary, and sentence formation in English. In line with this, researchers also found factors such as the intensity of screen time and the role and involvement of parents in the process of English language acquisition through English cartoons.

Abstract

This study investigates the efficacy of game-based learning (GBL) in the context of writing instruction, specifically examining its influence on students' creativity in Institut Prima Bangsa. The aim of this study is to ascertain whether GBL can foster enhanced creative writing abilities for the students. By analyzing the relative effectiveness of these pedagogical strategies, the study aspires to yield significant insights into the ways in which GBL affects students' writing competencies and creative expression. An experimental research design was utilized, comprising two distinct student groups: an experimental group engaged in writing instruction through GBL and a control group receiving traditional writing education. To evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional approaches, both groups underwent pre-tests and post-tests, which measured various dimensions of writing proficiency and creativity prior to and following the instructional phase. Subsequent statistical analyses were conducted to compare the outcomes of the two groups, with the objective of identifying any notable differences in results. The findings indicated that the experimental group, which participated in GBL, exhibited a marked enhancement in both writing skills and creativity relative to the control group that adhered to traditional instructional practices. This finding underscores the significant implications of the research for educational environments, particularly in the realms of language instruction and curriculum development. The findings highlight the novelty of this study in demonstrating how the integration of game-based learning strategies not only enhances student engagement but also introduces a creative pedagogical framework that stimulates students’ imaginative thinking in ways that traditional methods may not achieve.

Abstract

Pronunciation is a term for pronouncing words correctly. Teachers should provide opportunities for students to actively participate in the pronunciation learning process. Teachers should have the ability to choose the most suitable approach to implement and use in their learning space. This study aims to explore the effect of the use of songs in English learning on students' pronunciation ability in the era of Merdeka Belajar The research method used was a randomized control experiment with participants consisting of two groups: an experimental group that received learning with songs, and a control group that received conventional learning.Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention tests, as well as participant observation. The results showed that the use of songs in English learning significantly improved students' pronunciation ability compared to conventional learning. These findings support the use of songs as an effective learning strategy in improving students' English skills in a dynamic educational era such as Merdeka Belajar. The pedagogical implication of this research is the need for wider integration of music media in the English curriculum, as well as training for teachers to utilize songs effectively in learning. The study involved seventy students. Samples were collected through cluster random sampling technique. The authors analyzed the data using two classes, X.E.1 and X.E.2. The authors used an oral test with a real rate of 5%. The results of the analysis showed that H0 was rejected. This means that students' pronunciation abilities before and after using the song method are different.
