Abstract

The learning activities undertaken by students are essential to be known as the basis for teachers to determine suitable teaching methods and media according to the characteristics of the students. The implication of this research is that teachers can create effective learning experiences by aligning teaching methods and media with the visual learning preferences of students. The research subjects were eighth-grade students at SMP Darussalam Bergas who have a visual learning style. The data for the research included all activities of students with a visual learning style. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's data analysis model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The data analysis results revealed that the characteristics of visual learning style predominantly dominated the students' learning preferences. The activities of visual learners include the following: they find it easier to comprehend what they see rather than what they hear, pay attention to PowerPoint presentations, are more organized and neat, prefer reading to being read to, are meticulous and detail-oriented, have good spelling skills, tend to doodle without specific meaning, are not easily distracted by noise but may be disrupted if the visual display is unclear, visual learners tend to copy everything written by the teacher on the chalkboard, and they prefer to sit near the front of the classroom to have a clear view. Keywords: learning activities, Javanese script, visual learning style

Abstract

Song translation presents unique challenges due to the intricate relationship between lyrics, melody, rhythm, and cultural meaning. The present research aims to analyze the translation techniques, methods, and ideology in the song Pura-pura Lupa by Mahen, which was translated into English by Emma Hesters. The present research employs the theoretical frameworks of translation techniques (Molina and Albir, 2002), translation methods (Newmark, 1988), and translation ideology (Venuti, 1995). A descriptive qualitative method with a product-based translation approach is used. The results of the present research show that six types of translation techniques are used, i.e. discursive creation, established equivalence, amplification, compensation, reduction, and linguistic amplification, with discursive creation being the most dominant. Since all the identified translation techniques are oriented towards the target language, the translation method also tends to support adaptation into the target language. Therefore, the translation ideology applied in this song refers to domestication. The research implies that song translation needs creative adjustments for acceptance in the target culture and language, though this may alter the original message’s authenticity. The present research offers practical guidance for song translators and music industry professionals on translation and localization strategies, while theoretically expanding the understanding of translation techniques and confirming the dominance of domestication in cross-cultural song adaptation.

Abstract

Environmental degradation, including deforestation, wildlife extinction, and ecological disasters, constitutes a serious issue that necessitates interdisciplinary attention. This study examines ecological criticism represented in the traditional Bima song “Nggahi Rawi Pahu” by Cucu Malingi through the lens of ecocriticism and Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). The analytical framework combines Greg Garrard’s ecocritical concepts (apocalypse, pollution, and animals) with Teun A. van Dijk’s AWK model (text structure, social cognition, and sociocultural context) to investigate the song lyrics as a medium of critique against environmental exploitation. The findings indicate that the lyrics construct a narrative of ecological damage through the use of symbolism, repetition, and metaphor, which illustrate deforestation, the extinction of wildlife, and flooding as direct consequences of human activity. Furthermore, the discourse strategies employed in the text foster collective ecological awareness and ideological resistance to environmental destruction by grounding the message in local cultural knowledge. This study highlights the role of traditional songs not merely as cultural expressions, but also as vehicles for ecological critique and public consciousness-raising.Keywords: Ecological Criticism, Critical Discourse Analysis, Traditional Song, Bima, Environmental Degradation AbstrakKerusakan lingkungan seperti deforestasi, kepunahan satwa, dan bencana ekologis menjadi persoalan yang memerlukan perhatian lintas disiplin.

Abstract

Gender equality education in literature learning is becoming increasingly significant due to the growing awareness. Gender equality education in literature learning has become increasingly important due to the growing awareness of gender stereotypes and biases within educational settings. This article examines how Serat Candrarini, as a classical Javanese literary text, represents gender relations through patterns of binary opposition and explores its implications for gender-equitable education. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using content analysis and a feminist deconstruction approach. The findings indicate that gender relations in the text are constructed through oppositions such as active–passive, high–low, and rational–emotional, positioning women in a subordinate role. However, the text also reveals small spaces that allow for critical readings of patriarchal values. These findings underscore the importance of reflective literature learning that fosters shifts in perspectives toward gender equality. Integrating gender perspectives into the curriculum and teaching methods is an essential step in cultivating awareness of educational equality. Further research is recommended to explore other traditional texts and to develop practical, gender-based literacy learning modules.
