Abstract

This study analyzed students’ final test in English for General subject, including the students’ overall scores, understanding the essay instruction, and grammar mistakes found in their essay. This research was conducted using a qualitativedescriptive method. The researchers employed document analysis to find related information from the research objectives naturally. The instrument used for the data collection was the students’ answer sheets from the final test, and a summative test was employed as the approach. There were fifty students of non- English Department Study Programs as the participants. The scores achieved conclude that the mean score achieved by the students is in the lowest category. It implies that they still need to improve their writing, such as sentence arrangement, grammar, and vocabulary selection. Furthermore, most students were mistaken in understanding the essay instruction and resulted in incorrect essays.

Abstract

This study aims to discover the benefits of using the Tik-Tok application in writing descriptive text. Then, find out if the Tik-Tok application helps students write and solve problems they find while writing. The purpose of this survey is the result of a 10th- grade study at SMK Yatpi Godong. SMK Yatpi Godong has 32 10th graders. In this case, researchers used a questionnaire that consisted of open-form questions to collect survey data. This study used qualitative research, and the data was collected using words and photographs rather than numbers. The researchers occupied open-form questions to get information from students and then changed the survey results to percentages. Last, examining and interpreting all the data. From the impact of the data analysis, 86,36% of the students said that the TikTok application had advantages in learning the descriptive text material. On the other hand, 13,64% of the students replied that the TikTok application did not give them many benefits in their learning. 63,64% of the students answered that they said the TikTok application helped them study the descriptive text. In contrast, 36,36% of the students answered that the TikTok application did not help in their studies. Last, 72,73% of the students had problems writing descriptive text using the TikTok application. However, 27,27% of them said they had no issues learning descriptive text using the TikTok application because they had mastered the materials.

Abstract

Speaking is one of the English skills which students need to master. The researcher used the Qualitative method for this research to catch-all phrases that include participant observation and interviews. In this research, the author trying to find the level of students’ speaking ability, students’ problems in speaking English, and factors that influence students’ speaking ability. The author found that students’ speaking ability of grade 8 students of Miftahul Huda is still low, problems that relate to factors that influence students’ speaking ability, and two factors that influence students’ speaking ability internal and external. In this research, the authors conclude that 1. The students of 8 grade SMP Miftahul Huda have bad speaking ability; 2. Some problems and difficulties faced by students when practicing to speak English. It is felt embarrassed, nervous, inability to pronounce words correctly, fear, lack of motivation and confidence are a few challenges faced;3. The students’ speaking ability of SMP Miftahul Huda is influenced by 2 factors internal factor and external factor. Some of the internal factors are lack of motivation from themselves, lack of mastery of vocabulary, and afraid of mispronunciation. The second factor is external factors these are less supportive environments.
