Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of active Range of Motion (ROM) training on increasing lower extremity muscle strength and joint range of motion in the elderly. A total of 55 elderly people who live in the work area of a community health center with complaints of activity disruption were respondents to this study. The research design used was pre-experimental with a one group pretest-posttest design. In the first stage, a pre-test is carried out to assess lower extremity muscle strength and joint range of motion before administering the procedure. Next, the Range of Motion (ROM) exercise is given once, followed by a return measurement after the action. The results of measurements before and after administering the action were analyzed using the Paired T test. It was found that there was a significant increase in lower extremity muscle strength and joint range of motion in the elderly after active ROM training. This shows that active ROM training is effective in increasing muscle strength and joint range of motion in the elderly. It can be concluded that active Range of Motion (ROM) training is an effective method and can be integrated into fitness programs for the elderly to improve muscle health and joint function. Regular implementation of this exercise can be a strategy in promoting the health of the elderly and minimizing the risk of decreased physical function due to aging. Abstract

ABSTRACT Chronic pain in older adults with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a significant health problem, often leading to impairments in daily activities, anxiety, and a decreased quality of life. This condition necessitates accessible and effective non-pharmacological interventions to address pain in the older adult population. This case study aims to implement and analyze the results of applying Virtual Reality Guided Imagery (SI-VIGUR) therapy as a nursing intervention to reduce chronic pain in older adult patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis at Tresna Werda Nursing Home, Lubuklinggau City in 2025. This case study involved two older adult individuals (Ny. S and Ny. A) suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis with complaints of chronic pain. The SI-VIGUR intervention was implemented for 3 consecutive days for each subject. Evaluation was conducted daily using pain level indicators from SLKI (Standard for Nursing Outcome Indicators, Indonesia) on a 1-5 scale (Increased to Improved), which included Protective Behavior, Pain Complaints, and Restlessness, as well as the Numeric Pain Scale (0-10). The implementation of SI-VIGUR consistently showed significant improvement across all indicators of chronic pain in both subjects. For Ny. S, the pain scale decreased from 6 at the beginning of the intervention to 2 on the third day, accompanied by improvements in Protective Behavior, Pain Complaints, and Restlessness, which showed progress from 'Initial Assessment' values to 'Improved' at the end of the intervention. Ny. A also showed a similar pattern of improvement, with the pain scale decreasing from 6 to 3 on the third day, although it was stagnant on the second day, and SLKI indicators also showed improvement. Both subjects reported increased relaxation and improved sleep quality. The application of Virtual Reality Guided Imagery (SI-VIGUR) is an effective, easily applicable, and highly potent non-pharmacological nursing intervention for reducing chronic pain in older adult patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis. The success of this intervention highlights the role of technology in supporting complementary therapies to improve the quality of life of the older adults. Keywords: Chronic Pain, Older Adults, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Virtual Reality Guided Imagery (SI-VIGUR).

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever, or DHF, is a common disease affecting many countries worldwide, particularly in Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific. It is estimated that there are 100–400 million infections annually. Although there is no specific treatment for this virus, controlling mosquito vectors remains the primary focus in controlling its spread. The formation of mosquito surveillance cadres is a crucial strategy in reducing DHF cases by monitoring breeding sites of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. Training for these cadres and clean village activities are vital for enhancing public knowledge and awareness of DHF prevention. These activities demonstrate that education and training increase the knowledge and participation of mosquito surveillance cadres. Therefore, the formation of mosquito surveillance cadres and practical training are critical steps in the efforts to prevent and control DHF.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to defects in insulin secretion or action. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is the most prevalent form, contributing to complications such as cardiovascular diseases, neuropathy, and retinopathy. Managing T2DM often involves lifestyle changes, including physical activity and dietary adjustments. Probiotic milk, containing beneficial microorganisms, has been studied for its potential to improve glycemic control in diabetic patients. However, while exercise and probiotics have been researched separately, their combined impact on blood glucose management remains underexplored. This study aimed to assess the effects of regular exercise and probiotic milk consumption on blood glucose levels in T2DM patients. Specifically, it sought to examine blood glucose changes before and after exercise, and after consuming probiotic milk. A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test post-test approach was used. Fifty participants with T2DM were recruited using purposive sampling from the SP6 Sari Bungamas Community Health Center, Lahat Regency, Indonesia. Participants engaged in light physical activity three times a week for three months. After each session, they consumed probiotic milk, and their blood glucose levels were measured pre-exercise, post-exercise, and two hours after consumption. Paired t-tests were used to analyze the data. Regular exercise significantly lowered blood glucose levels (p-value = 0.016). However, probiotic milk consumption did not show a statistically significant effect on blood glucose levels (p-value = 0.55). Regular exercise significantly reduces blood glucose levels in T2DM patients. However, the effect of probiotic milk on blood glucose levels was inconsistent, warranting further research to determine its potential benefits.
