Abstract

Palm sugar from farmers is generally marketed using plastic packaging and easy to melt, especially on torosan palm sugar which is located at the base of the buildup. It can be overcome by innovating in the packaging of palm sugar. This study aims to collect data related the packaging and to conduct a survey of consumer preferences for palm sugar packaging. The method used is the Kansei Engineering by collecting kansei words related to consumer preference for palm sugar packaging. After the kansei words have been collected, then the words are presented in the form of a semantic differential scale questionnaire to capture direct consumer kansei about the elements of packaging design. The samples used in this study were 18 types of palm sugar packaging. Respondents involved in the research for this initial stage were 10 consumers and 3 sugar palm farmers. The interview results obtained as many as 96 kansei words related to the packaging of palm sugar. These words are used as kansei words that will be presented in questionnaires. From the results of interviews and questionnaires can be concluded that consumers want innovation in the packaging of torosan palm sugar and brown sugar in accordance with their uses.

Abstract

Body scrubs are skincare products specifically designed to help remove dead skin cells, while providing moisture to the skin. The main components in body scrubs often include exfoliating grains such as sugar, salt, seeds, or other natural abrasives, one of the promising natural ingredients to be used in the manufacture of body scrubs is biochar produced from empty fruit bunches (EFB) and bromelain solid waste. The purpose of this study was to determine the best ingredient formulation and to determine the potential and characteristics of EFB and bromelain waste when used as a body scrub. There were 3 treatments of adding EFB biochar (5g, 10g, 15g) and 3 treatments of adding bromelain solid waste (5g, 10g, 15g). The resulting data were presented descriptively. The results showed that the body scrub formulation with the addition of 10gr of EFB biochar was the formulation with the best characteristics, namely adhesion of 24.06 seconds, spreadability of 4.3 cm, pH 6.5, moisture content of 66.5%.

Abstract

Limbah cair tahu banyak dihasilkan selama produksi tahu mulai dari pembersihan kedelai, hingga pencetakan. Limbah cair tersebut mengandung polutan yang berbahaya bagi lingkungan jika dibuang secara langsung ke badan air tanpa pengolahan. Untuk menangani permasalahan tersebut,  elektrokoagulasi limbah cair tahu merupakan salah satu metode yang dapat digunakan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh waktu kontak (20, 30, 40 menit) dan ukuran plat almunium (4x8, 5x8, 6x8 cm) terhadap penurunan polutan limbah cair industri tahu. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap. Data yang diperoleh diuji menggunakan anova dan diuji lanjut menggunakan BNJ taraf kepercayaan 95%. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa semakin besar ukuran plat dan lama waktu kontak akan semakin besar penurunan TSS dan TDS limbah cair tahu, selain itu juga meningkatkan pH limbah cair. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, penggunaan ukuran plat 6x8 cm selama 40 menit merupakan perlakuan terbaik yang dapat menurunkan TSS hingga 717 mg/L, TDS 6.957 mg/L, menaikkan pH menjadi 6,7, serta menurunkan COD menjadi 660 mg/L dan kekeruhan 58,10 NTU. Namun belum memenuhi baku mutu air limbah tahu sehingga perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut untuk mengoptimalkan proses koagulasi dalam pemenuhan baku mutu limbah cair tahu.
