Abstract

Anthracnose is one of the most important seed-borne diseases in chili plants because this disease can reduce the quantity and quality of chilies and cause substantial economic losses. The aim of this study was to obtain the best isolates from various types of endophytic fungi Beauveria bassiana in suppressing the growth of pathogens. chili seed borne disease caused by the fungus Colletotrichum spp. The design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 6 treatments. The treatments consisted of control and 5 types of B. bassiana isolates (PD114, TD312, WS, BbKo, KT2B23). Parameters observed in this study were chili seeds that were attacked by Colletotrichum spp., normal seed germination on paper-to-paper test, length of plumule and radicle. Results. The study showed that different types of B. bassiana isolates could reduce the attack rate of seed-borne pathogenic fungi Colletotrichum spp. KT2B23 isolate was the best isolate in suppressing chili seed-borne pathogens.

Abstract

Bakanae disease caused by Fusarium fujikuroi causes high yield losses ranging from 3.0-95.4%. The use of epiphytic yeast as a biocontrol agent has the potential to control F. fujikuroi. The aim of this research is to obtain epiphytic yeast species as potential biological control agents to suppress the growth of F. fujikuroi. This research will be carried out in two stages: isolation and in vitro screening. Isolation was carried out using the systematic sampling method and screening using several tests. The parameters observed were morphological characterization of epiphytic yeast and percentage of relative inhibition level against pathogen growth (%). The result showed that shape of the epiphytic yeast cells is round, oval, rod-shaped, and budding. The color of the colonies is pink, milky white, yellow and some form pseudomycelium. The results of observations of the hight percentage of relative inhibition levels against pathogen growth in three consecutive epiphytic yeast isolates were respectively KPSL1.11 (72,44 %), KPSL1.7 (61,37%) dan KPS3 (53,57%).

Abstract

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is an important food crop with Helminthosporium oryzae B. de Haan, Curvularia sp., and Rhizoctonia solani as three major associated pathogenic fungi. In controlling these pathogens, the use of antagonistic fungus, such as Trichoderma asperellum, is still considered the most effective and environmentally friendly. The study aimed to determine the potential of T. asperellum in suppressing several pathogenic fungi that cause disease in rice plants in vitro. The study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 10 replicates. The treatments were several pathogens that cause disease in rice plants with antagonistic fungi T. asperellum to inhibit several pathogens in rice plants, namely R. solani, Curvularia sp., H. oryzae., and untreated control. Testing the antagonistic power of T. asperellum against several pathogenic fungi was carried out by double culture method and culture vapor method. Observations made included the percentage of inhibition, invasion rate, colony area, changes in morphological characters, the number of conidia and the number of germinated conidia. The results showed that T. asperellum has the potential to suppress the growth of several pathogenic fungi studied in vitro. In the double culture method, T. asperellum suppressed the growth of R. solani fungus with the highest inhibition percentage of 68.40%, whereas in the vapor culture method, T. asperellum suppressed the growth of Curvularia sp. fungus with the highest effectiveness of 62.04%.
