Abstract

Oguz han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan is a higher education institution, which specializes in training engineers with innovative views. Training of future professionals that “Engineer a Sustainable World” requires not only new competencies, including creative learning and thinking, complex problem-solving interdisciplinary and international cooperation, and a code of ethics, but also challenges a change in engineering education itself. In our approach, we suggest innovative ways to develop a deeper working knowledge of technical fundamentals while simultaneously learning personal and interpersonal skills, and product, process, and system building skills. For analysis of interrelated arrangement of modules for effective acquisition of knowledge, a supportive alignment of disciplinary courses was studied and a wide range of skills required in professional areas were mapped throughout the curriculum. Moreover, we created a new learning context that provides an opportunity to implement both theoretical and practical knowledge to conceive, design, implement and operate real-world systems and products. In this approach, we developed integrated methods of gaining active learning experience that forms a basis for carrying out challenging capstone projects. As a result, our innovative approach that focuses on modification of education and research improves all aspects of comprehensive training of sustainable engineers.

Abstract

Despite being one of the young universities in the country, Oguz han Engineering and technology university of Turkmenistan (ETUT) aims to integrate all sustainable development goals in all aspects of its education and research programs within the scope of “Green Engineering." To increase the awareness and recognition of green engineering in our university, community, country, and world, we are developing sustainable projects such as the production of green hydrogen through solar panels, conversion of plastic waste into liquid fuel, bioethanol production from cotton stalks, sorting of solid wastes with a novel waste separator, production of synthetic fibers, clonal propagation of local plants, and obtaining of degradable bioplastics. This paper will explain these projects in detail accordingly. Realization and implementation of these projects into our society will contribute to applying sustainable development goals in the energy, climate change, and waste management areas of campus sustainability.

Abstract

Abstract

The paper delves into the water management strategies of Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan (ETUT), emphasizing sustainable practices and regulatory compliance. ETUT employs various innovative techniques like rainwater collection through rain gardens, permeable pavement, and cisterns to mitigate runoff and enhance water quality. Rainwater is stored for irrigation, reducing reliance on municipal sources and contributing to groundwater recharge. A water-recycling program repurposes rainwater and fountain water, while innovative structures promote plant growth and water conservation by condensing atmospheric moisture. The university utilizes advanced wastewater treatment methods incorporating plants and microorganisms to purify water efficiently. Complying with national regulations ensures safe drinking water provision and resource protection. Regular monitoring aids in assessing policy effectiveness, fostering continuous improvement. ETUT's commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship is reflected in its comprehensive water conservation program, fostering a culture of innovation and responsibility within the university community.

Abstract

The paper discusses Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan's (ETUT) waste management initiatives, particularly its Zero Waste Program aimed at minimizing waste generation and promoting sustainability across campus. Strategies include educational campaigns, eco-friendly purchasing, and collaboration with vendors for waste reduction, reuse, and recycling. ETUT employs structured waste categorization, centralized repositories for reusable items, and a recycling plant with advanced sorting machinery. Innovative methods like paper recycling and composting are used, along with exploring plastic repurposing into fibers and fuel. Organic waste management includes composting, notably reducing landfill waste. Inorganic waste reduction involves paper recycling, plastic conversion, and electronic repair and donation. The program emphasizes waste reduction through recycling and reuse, including upcycling workshops. Abstract

This paper conducts a comparative analysis of sustainability-focused educational initiatives at Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University of Turkmenistan (ETUT) alongside other young universities, including Duke Kunshan University (China), Ashoka University (India), Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST, Saudi Arabia). The study examines how these institutions integrate sustainability into their curricula, student engagement, and community outreach efforts, emphasizing the role of emerging universities in advancing sustainability education. Through an in-depth case study of ETUT and a comparative review of global trends, the research highlights innovative approaches aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This paper illustrates how young universities leverage their agility to embed sustainability into their operations, curricula, and community interactions, preparing students to address pressing environmental and social challenges in the 21st century.

This study explores the potential of sustainable energy solutions to address global energy challenges and mitigate climate change. Oguz Han Engineering and Technology University (ETUT) serves as a case study, displaying its innovative approaches to energy efficiency, waste management, and renewable energy production. The university's implementation of energy-saving devices, smart building automation systems, and LED lighting demonstrates a commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices. Additionally, the study investigates the conversion of plastic waste into liquid fuel and the production of bioethanol from cotton stalks as potential solutions for waste management and renewable energy generation. Further, the research explores the deposition of thin film bismuth vanadium tetraoxide for hydrogen production, highlighting its potential as a clean energy source. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of sustainable energy solutions and the role of academic institutions in driving innovation and promoting a greener future.
