Abstract

In the book, “An Apology for the Life and Character of the Celebrated Prophet of Arabia, Called Mohamed, or The Illustrious,” Godfrey Higgins (1772-1833) presents “Persian empire and the oriental part of the Roman empire at the beginning of the seventh century,” “the emergence of Islam,” “the Prophet Muhammad’s (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam [SAW]) character, and mission,” “there is no god but Allah,” and “Muhammad (SAW) is the messenger of Allah.” He also compared Christianity (Bible) and Islam (Qur'an) in detailed. Higgins noted that the object of the book is to abate the spirit of intolerance that existed between Christians and Muslims. The review emphasizes the book's contribution to fostering a rational understanding of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Islam for researchers interested in Islamic history and those who are curious about the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and Islam.

Abstract

Hijab has been applied in different forms in different civilizations and traditions since the era of first man and prophet Adam (Alayhi As-Salam). So, hijab and seclusion were practiced in many cultures long before Islam. Hijab is compulsory for women to save their modesty and chastity of all periods and times in Islam. Hijab themselves is natural for women and their innate dispositions demand it. Hijab frees women from being thought of as sexual objects of desire, or from being evaluated by their looks, or body shape rather than their minds and intellect. Studies indicate that girls and women may encounter sexual violence in their day-to-day social life in all cultures and societies.  Hijab protects adolescent girls and women from sexual harassment. Hijab is women’s shield and fortress.  The obvious fact is this, that the house is a protecting and secure place for a woman in a society. Islam does not like to go outside from the house without the essential needs. If the woman goes outside because of the essential requirement, then she should cover her whole body with a long cloth and should keep her gaze down.  Allah says “And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms.

Abstract

Health has five dimensions, namely physical, social, mental, spiritual, and religious health. “Religious health” is the state of physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being that occurs by complying with the orders, prohibitions and rules of the true religion that is Islam mentioned by Allah. In conclusion, we would like to emphasize that the most important dimension of health is “religious health” since religion has a substantial role in improving physical, mental, social and spiritual health. Wells summarized Islam 100 years ago as follows: modern religion (Islam) appeals to no revelation, no authoritative teaching, no mystery. The statement it makes is, it declares, a mere statement of what we may all perceive and experience. To this, all true religion, casting aside its hulls of misconception must ultimately come. To it indeed much religion is already coming. Lastly, Islamic psychology is rapidly growing and developing with more academic and clinical training programs around the world; therefore, we strongly believe that Islamic psychology should be integrated with mainstream psychology.

Abstract

This book review critically explores George Sale's pioneering translation of the Qur'an, focusing on its historical significance, linguistic nuances, and enduring relevance. Sale's translation, first published in 1734, remains a seminal work in English-language interpretations of the Qur'an. The review delves into Sale's dedication and introductory sections, highlighting his acknowledgment of the Qur'an's importance amidst differing religious perspectives. Drawing from Sale's own words and insights from orientalists like Edward Denison Ross, the review elucidates the Qur'an's role in shaping Islamic civilization and its impact on diverse cultures. Additionally, Sale's meticulous translation, influenced by earlier works such as Lewis Marracci's Latin translation, reflects the elegance and purity of the Arabic language, further underscored by its canonical status among Arabic-speaking communities. The review also examines Sale's comprehensive approach, encompassing not only translation but also contextual explanations and historical references. Furthermore, it discusses Sale's discourse on pre-Islamic Arabian society, the emergence of Islam, and the fundamental doctrines expounded in the Qur'an. The review concludes by advocating for the inclusion of Sale's preliminary discourse in future editions, emphasizing the enduring relevance of the Qur'an's truths for contemporary readers, both Muslim and non-Muslim alike.
