Abstract

Ferns are low plants that are cosmopolitan or can be found anywhere. Panglebur Gongso waterfall area is one of the areas that has the potential to become a habitat for ferns. This study aims to determine the diversity of ferns in the Panglebur Gongso waterfall area and its benefits in human life. Data collection was carried out in December 2023 using the exploration method. Data collection is done by taking photo documentation of various types of ferns in the Panglebur Gongso waterfall area, then identification includes characteristics, morphology, habitat, plant classification and benefits. The results of observations of ferns in the Panglebur Gongso waterfall area obtained 9 species of ferns consisting of 5 families including Lygodiaceae, Pteridiaceae, Thelypteridaceae, Tectariaceae and Selaginellaceae. The ferns found include Cyclosorus terminans, Christella dentata, Adiantum concinnum, Christella parasitica (L.), Lygodium circinatum, Pityrogramma calomelanos (L.), Selaginella plana, Selaginella willdenowii, and Tectaria heracleifolia. Ferns can be utilized by humans as ornamental plants, medicines, antimicrobials and antibacterials, and are beneficial for ecology in preventing soil erosion and phytoremediation.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries located on the equator and has a tropical climate. Due to this climate, Indonesia has a high level of flora and fauna. One of them is the diversity of tropical flowers and plants. One of the most diverse tropical flower habitats in Indonesia is Curug Lawe in Semarang Regency, Central Java. This study aims to determine the diversity of tropical flowering plants in the Curug Lawe waterfall area, Semarang Regency. The method used in this study is descriptive exploratory with a qualitative approach. The results of observations of tropical flowering plants in the Curug Lawe area obtained 17 families of Asteraceae, Heliconiaceae, Iridaceae, Commelinaceae, Araceae, Balsaminaceae, Costaceae, Verbenaceae, Gesneriaceae, Lamiaceae, Lythraceae, Amaranthaceae, Proteaceae, Rubiaceae, Malvaceae, Oxalidaceae, and Rosaceae. These results show the high diversity of tropical flowers in the Curug Lawe area because it has supportive environmental conditions. Tropical flowering plants have various benefits, including being used as medicines, ornamental plants, as cooking ingredients, anticancer, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, as insecticides, and industrial oils.

Abstract

The accumulation of organic waste causes new problems such as environmental pollution, methane gas production that causes global warming, and sources of diseases that can affect human health. One solution in managing organic waste is the manufacture of ecoenzymes. Ecoenzymes have many benefits in everyday life such as household cleaning fluids, vegetable and fruit cleaners, insect repellents and plant fertilizers. The Biology study program of UIN Walisongo Semarang through community service activities tries to process waste into a useful and valuable product with the participants of this service being class IX students of SMA Al-Azhar 15 Semarang. The method used in this training begins with coordination with teachers, a pre-test before the training, introduction to the material, training in making eco enzyme hand soap, and a post-test. Based on the results of the pre-test, students stated that eco enzyme can be used as fertilizer, toilet cleaner, dish soap, natural pesticide, can neutralize river water and fertilize plants. From the survey results of the level of student interest in becoming entrepreneurs before the training was conducted, it was found that 13 students were interested in becoming entrepreneurs, 11 students were very interested, 11 students were not interested, and 2 students were very uninterested in becoming entrepreneurs. After the eco enzyme handsoap making training was conducted, the level of student interest in becoming entrepreneurs increased with the results of 16 students interested in becoming entrepreneurs, 10 students were very interested, 8 students were not interested, 2 students were very uninterested, and there were 2 students who did not answer.
