Abstract

This research entitled Deixis Analysis on Comments of Taylor Swift’s YouTube Channel. The purposes of the research are to find out the types of deixis and interpret the meaning of utterances based on deixis that found on comments in “Back to December” of Taylor Swift’s YouTube channel. The method of this research used descriptive qualitative research. The writer used Levinson’s theory (1983). In this research, the writer analyzed 32 comments on Taylor Swift’s YouTube channel. There are 11 cases of person deixis, place deixis 2 cases, time deixis 1 case, discourse deixis 10 cases, and last but not least, social deixis 8 cases. The writer concludes that the comments are mostly dominated with person deixis which are important in pragmatics study.

Abstract

This study aims at describing moral values of the main character dealing with life problems in ‘a walk to remember’ novel by Nicholas Sparks. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The method of data collection is done by reading and recording techniques. The results showed: (1) there are three types of morality form, namely; moral value in human relations with God (faith and prayer), moral value in human relations with oneself (patience and sincerity), the manifestation of the relationship between humans and other human beings (parental advice to children, interpesonal advice, parental love for children , child affection for parents, affection between friend, and parent responsibility to children). (2) the moral of the main character is dealing with life problems are accepting the fate of God , being firm in stance, being submissive, working hard , praying to God, not being easily discouraged. Keywords: Moral, Value, Pragmatic, Manifestation.

Abstract

Jenis kata adalah topik penting untuk dipelajari karena ini merupakan salah satu keterampilan dasar dalam bahasa Inggris. Kemampuan memahami jenis kata bagi siswa MLC sangat penting terutama ketika mereka masih belum memiliki kesempatan untuk mengambil kursus bahasa Inggris karena mereka berasal dari keluarga yang tidak mampu dengan kata lain mereka tidak mampu membayar biaya kursus. Oleh karena itu, tim dosen FSH UBD berinisiatif untuk bekerja sama dengan MLC dalam memfasilitasi mahasiswa MLC belajar bahasa Inggris dengan tujuan khusus untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris mereka. Pelatihan dilaksanakan selama 3 jam 08 Januari 2023. Peserta yang mengikuti pelatihan ini berjumlah 10 orang. Kelas ini menyimpulkan bahwa mayoritas meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam mengidentifikasi kelas kata dalam bahasa Inggris namun sisanya tidak mampu dan ini dikarenaka tingkat level pendidikan mereka rendah. Secara keseluruhan kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh tim dosen FSH berjalan lancar sesuai jadwal.

Abstract

Abstract This thesis analyzes Extravert personality types in the novel ‘The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill’. The goals of this research is to find out what type of extravert personality that can be seen in the novel ‘The Bookish Life Of Nina Hill’ which is related to the personality approach using Carl Jung's personality theory. This research focuses on Nina Hill's personality. The reason is because Nina Hill's personality is a nerd girl who wants to change her life to become more open to the world. The method that is used for this thesis is a qualitative method by collecting data through library books and online data. The results show that extravert personality types found in the novel are divided into four types namely Thinking, Feeling, Sensing, and Intuiting. The first is Extravert Thinking. It is a personality that She thinks logically so that She is understanding and explaining things with logical rules. Second is Extravert Feeling. It is a personality that shows She responds to something emotionally. She is rejecting opinions that do not suit her emotionally. Third is Extravert Sensing. It is a personality who seeks pleasure by enjoying her activities in her weekly activities. Furthermore, Extravert Intuiting. It is a personality that She has creativity and takes advantage of the opportunity by making new ideas and taking advantage of opportunities to increase her knowledge.
