Abstract

This research aims to produce a mapping of the ideological strength of Muhammadiyah in terms of its perspectives and aspirations within the former Surakarta residency area. The study employs a quantitative approach, focusing on respondents' perceptions regarding Muhammadiyah's views and life aspirations. A total of 208 respondents participated in the study, and data collection utilized a measurement tool for Muhammadiyah's ideological strength developed by Subando, Samsuri, and Muslimin. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research findings indicate that the Muhammadiyah Regional Leaders (Pimpinan Daerah Muhammadiyah, PDM) of Klaten achieved the highest score (4.77), indicating the most favorable assessments of Muhammadiyah's perspectives and aspirations. They were followed by PDM Sukoharjo (4.26), PDM Boyolali (4.25), PDM Surakarta (4.19), and PDM Karanganyar with the lowest score (3.99). Based on these findings, PDM Karanganyar could benchmark against other PDMs and adopt the internalization pattern of strengthening Muhammadiyah's ideology in the Klaten region as a model.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a measurement instrument for the implementation of Islamic lifestyle guidelines among Muhammadiyah community members. The research procedure adapts Borg and Gall's development research model. The steps in instrument development include preliminary research, planning, initial product development, limited testing, and expanded testing. Five experts were involved in the development of the initial product, with expertise covering measurement, religious thought, and Muhammadiyah practice. The expert assessment data were analyzed using the Aiken formula. Twenty-five Muhammadiyah leaders in Karanyanyar participated in the limited testing phase, and the data from this phase were analyzed using exploratory factor analysis with SPSS. The expanded testing involved 253 leaders and members of Muhammadiyah in the districts of Karanganyar, Sragen, and Boyolali, selected using the cluster random sampling technique. The data from the expanded testing were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling (SEM) with LISREL software. The research resulted in a package of 27 valid and reliable measurement items for the implementation of Islamic lifestyle guidelines among Muhammadiyah members, suitable for further measurement.

The results of the experts' validation were analyzed with the Aiken formula. The validated instrument was then tested limitedly in the Muhammadiyah regional leadership in Karanganyar, Sragen, and Boyolali, by involving 253 respondents. The result of the test was analyzed using factor analysis and SEM using the Lisrel program. The result of the research shows that the instrument for measuring the views on Muhammadiyah ideology consists of 26 items comprised of seven aspects of Muhammadiyah ideology measurement, including tauhid (two items), living in a social group (three items), Allah's law (three items), Islamic doctrine (five items), the prophet's ittiba' (four items), organization (three items), and Muhammadiyah goals (six items). The instrument fulfills the validity criteria since it has a loading factor between 0.3-0.85(>0.3) and CR 0.92 (>0.7). The instrument is reliable since Cronbach's Alpha is 0.869>0.7. Since it is valid and reliable, then it is suitable to be used to measure the views on Muhammadiyah ideology in Indonesia.
