Abstract

Background: Aging is the cause of widespread progressive changes in all aspects of biology that result in susceptibility to various diseases. The changes seen in the decrease in peak expiratory flow due to age often cause less air to enter the body. A decrease in peak expiratory flow will result in hypoxemia and hypercapnia which will lead to respiratory failure.. Buteyko Breathing Exercise is an intervention that supports increasing peak expiratory flow so that it can open the breathing path. Objective: Knowing the Effect of Buteyko Breathing Exercise on Increasing Peak Expiratory Flow in the Elderly. Method: This study uses the type of experimental research with one group pretest - posttest which is carried out at the Tresna Budi Mulia III Social Institution. In this study using 13 respondents who were selected using the Random Sampling Technique. Measurement of Peak Expiratory Flow using a Peak Flow Meter on baseline and final data after intervention for 4 weeks with a frequency of 2 times a week. Results: Changes in the increase in peak expiratory flow before and after the intervention obtained a value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect of Buteyko Breathing Exercise on Increasing Peak Expiratory Flow in the Elderly at Tresna Werdha Budi Mulia III Social Home.

Abstract

Background: Elderly is a term at the last stage of the aging process. Elderly people often experience health problems. This problem stems from the decline in body cells. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative and progressive joint disease associated with joint cartilage damage. This disease causes pain in sufferers which can interfere with daily activities and hinder functional tasks. Purpose: This study aims to identify the various literature related to the effect of proprioceptive training on knee osteoarthritis pain in the elderly. Research Methods: The study design used was a literature study. Data collection was carried out by downloading all literature that matched the inclusion and exclusion criteria with the publication time of the last 10 years. Literature was obtained from 4 search engines, namely PMC, Google Scholar, Pedro, and Semantic Scholar. Results: There were 10 literature relevant to 7 literatures using clinical trial study design and 3 literatures with RCT study design. The outcome obtained was pain with the measuring instruments used, namely VAS and NPRS. Overall, proprioceptive training has a significant change. Conclusion: proprioceptive training has an influence on knee osteoarthritis pain in the elderly from various literature. It is hoped that the public will know that proprioceptive training can be used to reduce knee OA pain

Abstract

Background: Low back pain is a common problem in various age groups. One of the factors that influence low back pain is the amount and type of activity performed. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the level of physical activity and the degree of low back pain. Research Methods: This study used cross-sectional research design and was conducted on residents of productive age in RW 11, Harjamukti, Depok from April to May 2022. A sample of 106 people was taken using purposive sampling technique. Data analysis includes univariate and non-parametric bivariate analysis using the Spearman Rank test. Results: Respondents with a level of physical activity based on IPAQ with a low category of 9.4%, a medium category 68.9%, and a high category 21.7%. The average degree of pain using the NPRS was 3.44. The results of statistical tests obtained significance value 0.000 (<0.05) with a correlation coefficient of -0.41. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the level of physical activity and the degree of low back pain in residents of productive age. The correlation is negative with sufficient strength.

Abstract

Activities involving intensive use of hands over an extended period are often associated with the occurrence of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). According to the 2013 ILO report, CTS is consistently detected in almost every incident of work-related diseases in several countries. One type of occupation at risk of CTS is online motorcycle taxi drivers. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between characteristics, medical history, and obesity with CTS complaints in the Online Motorcycle Taxi Community of the Ciracas District, East Jakarta, in the year 2022. The study design is cross-sectional. The sample consists of 107 online motorcycle taxi drivers from the Ciracas District. The research was conducted from April to September 2022. Data collection was done using questionnaires. Data analysis included univariate, bivariate (Chi-square test), and multivariate (Logistic Regression test). The research findings reveal that respondents with CTS complaints in the at-risk category are 29.9%. The majority of respondents are below 40 years old (52.3%), have a work experience of less than 4.5 years (51.4%), work for more than 8 hours per day (59.8%), have no medical history (59.8%), and are not obese (71.0%). The bivariate analysis results show that variables significantly associated with CTS complaints include work experience (p = 0.012 and OR = 3.3), work duration (p = 0.021 and OR = 3.297), medical history (p = 0.046 and OR = 2.571), and obesity (p = 0.049 and OR = 2.654). The multivariate analysis results indicate that there is no single dominant factor with the highest influence on CTS complaints within the online motorcycle taxi community (p > 0.05). The recommendation is to provide Health Education to online motorcycle taxi drivers regarding preventive measures for CTS complaints. This aims to help them manage their work schedule effectively and take preventive actions against CTS issues, such as regular breaks, supportive nutrition, and so forth.
