Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the impact of urbanization on environmental and socio-economic resilience of communities by investigating the Sukoharjo region in Indonesia. Several components of urban ecosystem were considered, including geological formations, geomorphological conditions, and eco-regions. Meanwhile, the analysis of urban socio-economic aspects focuses on community well-being and urban facilities. The research uses 180 observation samples in the analysis process. The result shows that urbanization deteriorates soil fertility, agricultural land, and the availability of clean water through panel data regression. In addition, urbanization has successfully increased per capita income, employment opportunities, and the development of public facilities, posing a dilemma for policymakers. This shift in population needs to be pursued by some communities to preserve urban ecosystem. Urbanization has a positive and negative impact on community welfare and ecosystems, respectively. In this context, future research must adopt effective methods for managing urbanization and urban ecosystems.Received: 2023-10-26 Revised: 2024-01-25 Accepted: 2025-02-19 Published: 2025-03-25

Abstract

The phenomenon of urban population growth is a global concern which will result in a decrease in the value of ecosystem services in an area. Sukoharjo Regency is an area affected by the development of Surakarta City; therefore, rapid growth is taking place. The objective of this study is to investigate the interplay between urbanization, ecosystem services, and the provision of clean water in Sukoharjo Regency in 2022. The methods used in the study were calculating the percentage of the urban population to determine the level of urbanisation, AHP and overlay to ascertain the ecosystem service score, together with cross-tabulation to establish the relationship between these two variables. The result of this study is that the level of urbanisation produces a pattern that districts in the north tend to comprise a higher level. The clean water supply ecosystem services in Sukoharjo Regency obtained results dominated by the low to medium level. The situation regarding the level of urbanisation and ecosystem services in Sukoharjo Regency reveals a relationship where an increase in the level of urbanisation will reduce the value of ecosystem services.

Abstract

The rapid development of urban areas characterized by urbanization has caused various impacts, such as LST. The Peri-Urban area of Surakarta City is one of the areas that experiences similar conditions. This study aims to measure urbanization through the urban form, population, and land urbanization and modeling urbanization of Land Surface Temperature. The method used in this study is modeling using Ordinary least squares (OLS) and Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR). Data processing tools to support this research are ArcGIS and Google Earth Engine. The combination of ArcGIS and Google Earth Engine makes LST modeling more accurate. The measurement results show that the urbanization rate in the peri-urban area of Surakarta City, based on the parameters of land urbanization and urban form, tends to move to the South and West sides with a higher population in areas close to Surakarta City. The results of this study show that GWR modeling is better at explaining the relationship of urbanization with LST than OLS models based on AICc numbers. The relationship of urbanization with population parameters, population density, percentage of built-up land, and urban form with LST using the GWR model of 66.17% and the OLS model reveals that urbanization. Keywords: GWR; LST; OLS; Urbanization; Urban form

Abstract

Urban development and global climate change drive increased Land Surface Temperature (LST). Wonogiri Regency is an area that is within the development range of Surakarta City. Analysis of land surface temperature has become Important in Wonogiri Regency as a mitigation measure for urban heat islands. This study aims to measure Land Surface Temperature (LST) in Wonogiri Regency and determine the controlling factor in the form of Land Use Land Cover (LULC), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), seasons, and zones by landform. Using the Google Earth Engine platform, LST calculations, LULC classifications, and NDVI calculations can compute imagery. The dataset used is USGS Landsat 8. The analytical technique used in this study is comparative descriptive, which compares other controlling factors. The analysis results show the vital role of LULC, NDVI, seasonality, and landform on LST. LULC types of built-up land, low NDVI values, dry season, and southern zone (karst) tend to have higher LST than other factors.

Abstract

Gondangrejo District is a suburb (peri urban) of Surakarta City with significant industrial growth in Karanganyar Regency. The driving factor of the development of the Gondangrejo District is the relocation of urban activities in Surakarta City. Gondangrejo District is an area of deconcentration of industrial activities because of its location directly adjacent to Surakarta City. A comprehensive site selection analysis is essential for industrial siting that supports sustainable builders. We select the optimal site for the industrial area by considering various criteria and inhibiting factors using GIS-based MCDA. Most suitable for industrial sites with GIS and AHP to build industries in The Gondangrejo District. This study aims to determine the most optimal industrial area by considering various appropriate criteria using multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) and geographic information system (GIS) methods. Based on the criteria used, namely proximity to roads, distance from rivers, distance from settlements, physiology, and population density with the same weight of 20%, a suitable location for the industrial area with a linear pattern or extending from east to west in the Gondangrejo District. Based on the same criteria with different weights from the results of the AHP analysis, suitable locations for industrial sites are Dayu Village, Rejosari Village, and Wonosari Village, which form a centering pattern. The study results found that the optimal industrial areas in Gondangrejo District are Dayu Village, Rejosari, and Wonosari. The results of the suitability of this industrial area can be used by decision-makers in the development planning of the Gondangrejo District.
