Abstract

Anemia is one of the public health problems experienced by many pregnant women in Indonesia, including in Aceh Province. One of the efforts to prevent anemia is by consuming iron tablets (TTD) regularly. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of education and knowledge of mothers about anemia with the regularity of blood tablet consumption. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study sample consisted of 100 pregnant women in the Penanggalan Health Center working area, selected through purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between the level of education (p = 0.032) and knowledge about anemia (p = 0.005) with the regularity of blood tablet consumption. Mothers with higher education and good knowledge tend to be more regular in consuming blood tablets. Improvement of health education is needed through routine counseling to increase mothers' awareness of the importance of preventing anemia during pregnancy.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Anemia during pregnancy remains a significant public health issue with a high prevalence in Indonesia. One of the primary efforts to prevent anemia is through the consumption of iron supplementation tablets (Tablet Tambah Darah/TTD). However, adherence among pregnant women to TTD consumption remains low due to insufficient monitoring and suboptimal support from healthcare services. This community engagement activity aimed to improve TTD adherence among pregnant women through the implementation of a self-monitoring card combined with a patient-centered excellent service approach by healthcare workers. The activity was conducted in Bangun Rejo Village, Tanjung Morawa Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency, involving 15 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters. The intervention consisted of educational sessions, distribution of TTD self-monitoring cards, and support from community health cadres. Evaluation was carried out using a pre–post test design, observation of card usage, and structured interviews. There was a significant improvement in TTD adherence, with the proportion of pregnant women consuming ≥6 tablets per week increasing from 33% to 83% after the intervention. The self-monitoring card proved effective in enhancing awareness and engagement of both mothers and their families. The implementation of excellent service also contributed to increased satisfaction with maternal health services. In conclusion, the combination of a self-monitoring card and excellent healthcare service is proven to be effective in improving TTD adherence among pregnant women. This intervention is recommended for broader implementation as part of anemia prevention efforts in maternal health programs. KEYWORDS Self Monitoring; Iron Supplementation Card; Excellent Service; Compliance; Blood Supplement Tablets ABSTRAK Anemia pada kehamilan masih menjadi masalah kesehatan masyarakat dengan prevalensi yang tinggi di Indonesia. Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy remains a public health problem in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 48.9% (Riskesdas, 2018). Low adherence to iron and folic acid tablet (TTD) consumption is one of the main causes of high anemia rates among pregnant women. This community service activity aimed to improve TTD consumption compliance among pregnant women through interactive educational media at Sarfina Sembiring Clinic in 2025. The implementation method applied a participatory learning approach, consisting of preparation, education delivery, evaluation, and follow-up. A total of 30 pregnant women participated in the activity. Pre-test and post-test evaluations showed an increase in knowledge scores from 62.5 to 85.3 (+36.4%), while compliance with TTD consumption increased from 46.7% to 83.3% (+36.6%). Additionally, 90% of participants stated that interactive media was easier to understand compared to conventional lecture methods. These findings indicate that interactive educational media effectively improves knowledge and compliance with TTD consumption among pregnant women, making it a viable alternative for health education to support anemia prevention programs in Indonesia.
