Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of group counseling with self-management techniques to decrease truancy behavior in class XI IPS students at SMA Negeri 2 Kupang. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental research type with a one-group pre-test and post-test research design. This research was conducted at SMA Negeri 2 Kupang. The sampling technique used was the purposive sampling method, that is, the sample was taken according to the intent and purpose of the study where the pre-test would be given to all members of the population, totaling 132 students. The data collection technique uses a questionnaire with a Likert scale model. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis, paired sample t-test differential analysis with SPSS For Windows 21 Version program. The results of this study indicate that there is a decrease in students' truancy behavior after being given group counseling services using self-management techniques. This is evidenced by the difference in the mean score before being given treatment of 119.60 and the mean score after being given treatment of 75.70. In addition, the t count using the paired sample t-test is 46.886, this value is > t-table 1.833 with a sig value <0.05, which means that H0 is rejected. This finding shows that group counseling services with self-management techniques potentially that used to reduce truancy behavior in class XI IPS students at SMA Negeri 2 Kupang.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the parenting style (democratic parents), the effectiveness of learning patterns, and the relationship between parenting style (democratic parents) and the effectiveness of learning in students at middle school. This study uses a quantitative approach to the type of descriptive correlational research. The study included 83 students and used purposive sampling. The data was collected using an instrument with a Likert scale model. The analysis technique used descriptive analysis and correlational analysis with SPSS Version 16. The findings in this study show that students at SMP Negeri 16 Kupang City have a democratic parenting style in the high category (96%) and the learning effectiveness of students (90%). Product moment correlation analysis shows that democratic parenting is related to learning effectiveness with a significant value of 0.012 (p < 0.05) and the Pearson Correlation value is 0.795 which indicates that the relationship between the two variables is strong. The positive direction where n = 83 and degrees of freedom (dk) is 80 with a significance level of 0.05, so it is known that the r table is 0.2159 (rtabel: 0.795 > rhitung: 0.2159). Here it can be interpreted that democratic parenting style has a strong positive relationship to the effectiveness of learning in students of SMP Negeri 16 Kota Kupang.

Abstract

Parent attachment is an important aspect of adolescent development that reflects the extent to which individuals feel emotionally attached to their parents. Self-esteem describes an individual's assessment of himself, including confidence and the ability to face challenges. This research is motivated by the importance of the role of parents in forming emotional attachment that affects the self-esteem of adolescents, especially students of SMK Negeri 3 Kupang. The purpose of the study is to find out the picture of parent attachment and self-esteem of students, as well as the relationship between the two. The approach used is quantitative with a correlational method. The sample consisted of 96 students in grades X and XI (Hospitality, Fashion, Culinary, Hospitality, and TJKT) from various majors, selected through proportional stratified random sampling technique. The instrument was in the form of a Likert scale questionnaire: 26 items to measure parent attachment and 31 items to self-esteem. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation test through SPSS version 22. The results showed that 47.90% of students had high parental attachment, especially in terms of communication and trust, although some still experienced estrangement. As many as 44.80% of students have high self-esteem, seen from the aspects of power, significance, virtue, and competence. The Pearson correlation test yielded a value of r = 0.444 which showed a positive and significant relationship between parent attachment and self-esteem. In conclusion, the stronger the student's attachment to their parents, the higher their self-esteem. Therefore, emotional support and good communication from parents are essential. Schools and families are advised to work together to strengthen this relationship to support students' psychological development.
