Abstract

Introduction: Sleep quality is the ability of an individual to stay asleep and to get the right amount of Rapid eye movement (REM) and Nonrapid eye movement (NREM) sleep. Sleep quality is said to be good if a person gets enough sleep and does not get sleep disturbances. Sleep quality will affect a person's alertness, mood, concentration, and attention. Medical students in Indonesia have poor sleep quality; as many as 53% of students experience sleep disorders. This study aims to determine the relationship between sleep quality and attention in medical students at Yarsi University. Methods: This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. This type of research is analytically observational. The number of samples of this study was 31 respondents who were active students of the Faculty of Medicine, YARSI University, in 2019. The research instrument used to measure sleep quality is the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and the trailmaking test (TMT) for attentional testing. The data analysis method used univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-square statistical test. Result: Twenty-one people had poor sleep quality. Among respondents with poor sleep quality, 12 respondents (57.1%) had poor attention, and nine respondents (42.9%) had good attention. Conclusion: Sleep quality and attention have no significant relationship with a p-value> 0.05. In the view of Islam, it follows the sleep pattern recommended by the Prophet Muhammad. Good sleep quality will improve quality of life.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: The rapid spread of COVID-19 has led to an increase in the number of people infected, but it has also been matched by an increase in the cure rate for COVID-19 cases. The cure rate is followed by prolonged symptoms and is known as long COVID. This condition can be experienced by everyone infected, including medical students. One of the symptoms is sleep disturbance which is enough to interfere with daily activities and life. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between long COVID and sleep disturbance that occur in medical faculty students. Methods: This research used the descriptive analytic type using cross sectional study approach. The determination of sample size technic used is non random sampling technique with purposive sampling method. The sample in the study were 43 repondents which are the student of medical faculty of YARSI university class of 2020,2021,2022. The type of data used is primary data which obtained through filling out Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) questionnaire to measure sleep quality. Bivariate analysis using nonparametric statistical tests, namely the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The results of the analysis shows that the majority of respondents 30 (69.8%) were female and 38 (88.4%) of the total respondents had poor sleeping quality. The range period of time respondents got infected by COVID-19 to fill out the questionnaire, is 1 to 17 months in 2022 and 2023. Most of respondents, 17 (39.5%) were confirmed positive in November 2022. The Mann-Whitney test results showed a p-value of 0.136 which indicates a p-value >0.05. The Mann-Whitney test results which indicates a p-value >0.05. Conclusion: Based on the results of Mann-Whitney test, there is no significant relationship between long COVID and sleep disturbances in this study. Therefore, additional information is needed regarding to other factors that affect the condition of long COVID and sleep disorders in respondents.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Long COVID is a term used to describe the presence of symptoms that continue for weeks or even months after the clinical recovery period. The signs and symptoms experienced by people with long COVID are very diverse and can affect mental health, one of which is anxiety. Anxiety can be experienced by many individuals regardless of age or gender, including students. Anxiety that becomes overwhelming and cannot be controlled will lead to anxiety disorder.
