Abstract

This research paper elucidates the effective utilization of role-play as a pedagogical tool to cultivate an immersive experiential learning milieu tailored for postgraduate scholars enrolled in courses focused on comparative evaluation theory and/or evaluation procedures. The integration of meticulously crafted role-play exercises within each of these courses serves to augment the level of student participation, consequently fostering a heightened degree of engagement with the course material. By immersing students in these role-play scenarios, the approach transcends the boundaries of conventional learning, facilitating a profound comprehension of the subject matter through active participation. The intricate role-play exercises outlined within the paper are characterized by their intricate design, ensuring students' active involvement in the learning process. These exercises are strategically developed to propel students beyond the confines of textual analysis, encouraging them to delve into experiential learning. By propelling students to think beyond the mere words they encounter in reading materials, the exercises stimulate critical thinking and creative problem-solving. Furthermore, the experiential nature of the exercises provides a secure environment for students to embrace a "learning by doing" ethos. This not only nurtures their understanding but also cultivates a sense of safety that emboldens them to explore and experiment without the fear of failure. Keywords: roleplay; interview technique

Abstract

This paper investigates the translation shifts in Andrea Hirata’s Laskar Pelangi Into The Rainbow Troops By Angie Kilbane as the consequence of interference of the mother language in translating SL into TL. It focuses on the shifts that occur in Source Text and Target Text in terms of Catford’s category shifts. Descriptive Translation Studies (DTS) is used in analyzing the texts. The texts are separated into clauses and analyzed based on Catford’s category shifts. It is argued that the interference of the First Language affects in translating ST into TT. It was found that: a) unit shift, class shift, and the very common one- the structural shift occurred in translating the text, b) expanding text occurs in which the TT has explained more detail than the ST, c) It was also found that there are two kinds of interference between ST and TT i.e. Syntactic/Grammatical interference and Lexical/Semantic interference as shifts are the reflection of the translator’s first language interference)

Abstract

Islamic institutions that teach English as a foreign language (EFL) face the dual challenge of maintaining religious values while enhancing global communication skills. This study applies the Spiral Andromeda Philosophy a multilevel framework encompassing supra, macro, meso, and micro levels to explore the integration of Islamic literacy into EFL instruction. Employing a qualitative document analysis method, data were collected from curriculum guides, lesson plans, and educational texts used in Islamic learning settings. Thematic findings reveal that incorporating Islamic elements such as Quranic passages, historical narratives, and ethical discussions not only supports language development but also strengthens moral awareness. Key strategies include curriculum integration, contextualized learning, interactive pedagogical practices, and assessments aligned with Islamic values. The results show that aligning EFL teaching with Islamic principles enhances student engagement, ethical communication, and identity formation, offering a holistic educational experience within Islamic institutions.
