Abstract

The global substantial evidence highlights that HIV/AIDS-related stigma is a barrier to HIV prevention programs, treatment, and support services. Overcoming stigma and discrimination is the main guiding principle in HIV prevention and control programs. Such overcoming is crucial, especially for indigenous people with HIV/AIDS because they are often marginalized. Based on this background, this scoping review aims to explore the HIV/AIDS stigma and its impact, especially experienced by indigenous people. : This scoping review was conducted from November 2022 to March 2023 by searching for manuscripts on PubMed, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, Wiley, Directory of Open Access Journals, ProQuest, GARUDA, and Gray Literature databases to identify HIV/AIDS stigma and its impact in indigenous people. Three reviewers independently screened the results. The extracted data were then mapped, categorized, and summarized. This study has identified that HIV/AIDS stigma in indigenous people includes curses, divine vengeance, and infectious diseases. Various impacts arising from stigmatization include concealment, discrimination, powerlessness, unequal life opportunities, and social rejection/isolation. Moreover, the stigma impacts the service system and health service providers. It is necessary to have a complex strategy supported by the involvement of health authorities, health workers, and indigenous communities to overcome the problems of HIV/AIDS stigma and to understand the culture of indigenous people to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS.

Abstract

Chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular conditions require ongoing and holistic management. Digital storytelling and health coaching are innovative methods that support chronic disease management. Digital storytelling enables patients to share personal experiences, enhancing their understanding and engagement. Health coaching offers personalized support to help patients achieve health goals through sustainable lifestyle changes. This scoping review aims to examine the existing literature on the use of digital storytelling and health coaching in chronic disease management. The review focuses on the potential benefits of combining these approaches and identifying research gaps. A literature search was conducted across electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar) using keywords related to digital storytelling, health coaching, and chronic disease management. Studies meeting the inclusion criteria were analyzed to identify key themes and research gaps. The findings indicate that digital storytelling enhances patient understanding of their condition, promotes better communication with healthcare providers, and increases patient engagement. Health coaching effectively helps patients set and achieve health goals through a structured and personalized approach. The combination of these methods provides a more holistic approach to chronic disease management. Integrating digital storytelling and health coaching provides a personalized, empathetic, and coordinated method for addressing chronic illnesses. However, further research is required to enhance integration strategies and evaluate the sustained impact of these methods across different long-term health conditions.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a widespread health concern that greatly affects the physical and mental well-being of individuals, particularly those who undergo hemodialysis (HD). Managing this condition poses significant challenges for patients, often leading to reduced self-efficacy. Digital storytelling has been identified as a potentially effective method for improving self-efficacy in patients with chronic illnesses; however, its impact on CKD patients receiving HD has not been thoroughly examined. This research aims to assess the impact of a digital storytelling intervention on boosting self-efficacy in CKD patients undergoing HD. A quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group was employed to examine the intervention's effects. The study involved 40 CKD patients from Bhayangkara Hospital Makassar, selected using purposive sampling. Of these, 27 patients were allocated to the intervention group, and 13 to the control group. The intervention group participated in digital storytelling sessions twice weekly for four weeks, with each session lasting 15-20 minutes. The Chronic Kidney Disease Self-Efficacy (CKD-SE) questionnaire was administered pre- and post-intervention to measure self-efficacy. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests for within-group changes and ANOVA to compare results between the groups. After the digital storytelling intervention, 85.2% of participants in the intervention group showed improvement in self-efficacy, though the change did not reach statistical significance (p = 0.215). Meanwhile, the control group experienced a decrease in self-efficacy over the same period. Despite the encouraging results, the brief duration of the intervention may have limited its full effectiveness. Digital storytelling appears to be a useful method for enhancing self-efficacy in CKD patients undergoing HD. Although the improvements were not statistically significant, the positive trends suggest potential benefits. Future studies should consider extending the duration of the intervention and increasing the sample size to better evaluate its efficacy.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is the third most prevalent disease worldwide. It is a contagious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, a bacterium characterized by dimensions of 0,5-4µ x 0,3-0,6µ and an outer thick layer composed of lipids that are resistant to chemical penetration. Family support is one of the factors influencing the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis, where both main and extended family serve as a support system for their affected members. The primary function of a family is to provide healthcare. The objective of this study is to investigate the relationship between family support and family stress among pulmonary tuberculosis patients at Tamalanrea Primary Health Center. This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional research design and utilized a total sampling approach with a sample size of 32 patients. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Fisher’s Exact test. The results of the study revealed a significant relationship between family support and family stress in tuberculosis patients, with a p-value of 0,018. In conclusion, this study established a correlation between family support and family stress among pulmonary tuberculosis patients at Tamalanrea Primary Health Center. It is suggested that future researchers use larger sample sizes to explore additional factors that impact family support and family stress among tuberculosis patients.
