Abstract

Self-medication is a treatment often chosen by the community to overcome their health complaints. Self-medication must pay attention to special conditions such as pregnant women because the risk of using drugs can impact the health of the mother and fetus. Morever, information about the effects and safety of drugs for pregnant women is still limited. Central Java has the highest percentage of self-medication in 2021, reaching 82.79 percent. Therefore, this study aims to determine the factors at the individual and regional levels that significantly influence the practice of self-medication among pregnant women in Central Java. This study used multilevel binary logistic regression method with data from Susenas Kor's March 2021, publications from BPS and Central Java Health Office. The results showed that age and severity of health problem are individual factors, in addition to GRDP per capita is regional factor that significantly influence the practice of self-medication in pregnant women.

Abstract

Maternal well-being is important because it affects the quality of life of children. In reality, the level of maternal well-being in Indonesia is still relatively low. This is evidenced by the Maternal Mortality Rate in 2020 of 189 deaths per 100,000 live birth which is still far from the SDGs target. In addition, the level of maternal well-being in Indonesia was ranked 112 out of 179 countries in the world in 2015. A measure is needed that can show the level of maternal well-being in each province to facilitate monitoring of government performance related to improving maternal well-being. Therefore, this study aims to develop a Maternal Wellbeing Index (MWI) in Indonesia in 2021. The stages of compiling the Index refer to the guidelines for the formation of composite indices by the OECD using factor analysis. The results showed that the Maternal Wellbeing Index is composed of three dimensions, namely reproductive status, health service use, and socioeconomic status. The province with the highest MWI is DI Yogyakarta, while the lowest IKI is in Papua Province.

Abstract

Vulnerable employment has negative impacts on individuals (vulnerable workers) and regions. In 2022, there was an increase in the vulnerable employment rate in Indonesia. By province, East Java is the province with the largest number of vulnerable workers in 2022. This could lead to an increase in poverty and economic stability in East Java and other provinces in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the picture of vulnerable workers in East Java and the variables that influence their trends. The variables used in this study consist of variables derived from individual and regional characteristics sourced from Sakernas August 2022 and the East Java Gross Regional Domestic Product publication. The statistical method used is binary logistic multilevel regression to analyze the effect of variables at the individual level and regional level on the status of vulnerable workers. The results of this study show that the variables of gender, age, education level, marital status, disability status, skills training, formal work experience, manufacturing sector contribution, and agricultural sector contribution affect the tendency of the labor force to become vulnerable workers.

Abstract

Indonesia has an alarming rate of child marriage. The acceleration of the elimination of child marriage cannot be delayed because it can threaten the future of the younger generation. Child marriage is influenced by regional factors as evidenced by the districts/cities on Sulawesi Island having a percentage of child marriage above the national rate. The purpose of this study is to determine the general description of the percentage of child marriage and factors that are thought to influence child marriage in districts / cities on Sulawesi Island in 2022. The research method used is Spatial Autoregressive (SAR). The results of the analysis show that the percentage of child marriage in districts/cities on Sulawesi Island has a spatial pattern. Then the variables of Average Years of Schooling (RLS) of women, Life Expectancy (UHH), average Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) per village, proportion of villages that have Elementary School (SD) and Junior High School (SMP), percentage of rural areas, and adjusted expenditure per capita of women have a significant effect on the percentage of child marriage in districts/cities in Sulawesi Island.

Abstract

Unlivable wages remain a key challenge in development. Despite minimum wage policies, many workers, especially women, still earn below the standard. West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) records the lowest average wage for female workers in Indonesia, even within the tertiary sector, which contributes the highest output and is the main employment source for women. This study examines unlivable wages among female tertiary-sector workers aged 18–49 using multilevel binary logistic regression with random intercept. Results show that 78.44% of women in this group still receive unlivable wages. Significant individual factors include child ownership, education level, certified training, and weekly working hours. At the regional level, the Open Unemployment Rate (OUR) is influential. These findings suggest that wage policy should consider both individual and regional aspects to improve wage livability for female workers in NTB’s tertiary sector.

Abstract

Marriage plays a vital role in a country’s demographic dynamics. However, Indonesia has seen a decline in marriage rates over the past decade. Changes in social and economic structures have contributed to the increasing phenomenon of delayed marriage, particularly among women. This trend has also influenced the Total Fertility Rate (TFR), especially in Java, where five out of six provinces reported a TFR below 2.1 in 2024. Delayed marriage among women is a critical issue due to its implications for reproductive health, as the reproductive age for women is limited to 15–49 years. This study analyzes factors influencing delayed marriage among ever-married women in early adulthood in Java Island in 2024. The method used is multilevel binary logistic regression. The results show that region classification, education level, employment status, savings ownership, and sex ratio significantly affect the likelihood of delayed marriage among this group of women.

East Java contributes greatly to national economy with high percentage of women working, but their wages are relatively low. This study aims to determine the description of inadequate wages also identify the influence and tendencies of individual and city variables on the inadequate wages of formal non-government female workers in East Java using Sakernas August 2023 and BPS publication. The results of multilevel binary logistic regression show that at the individual level, education level, certified training participation, work experience, and union participation, also female Human Development Index as variable at the city level, significantly affect the inadequate wages of formal non-government female workers in East Java. Attention should be on education, skill development, experience, union, and live quality in working area to overcome the problem.

Abstract

Indonesia has committed to increasing secondary education participation through the Wajib Belajar Dua Belas Tahun program. However, many people still do not complete this level, especially in West Kalimantan Province, which recorded the lowest ALS in the Western Region of Indonesia. A significant decline in the high school NPR compared to the previous level also indicates a high dropout rate. This study aims to provide an overview, test variable significance, and analyze dropout risk among people aged 16–18 years at the secondary education level in West Kalimantan Province in 2024. The method used is survival analysis with the discrete-time shared frailty survival model, based on March 2024 Susenas data. Results show that employment status, online learning status, PIP acquisition status, relationship status with head of household, and head of household education level affect school dropout. People who do not receive PIP have the highest dropout risk.
