Abstract

The tradition of Kundangan or Kenduri is one of the Indonesian Muslim practices that some groups consider Bid'ah (innovation) because it is not directly based on the Hadith of the Prophet. Research on Kenduri is generally divided into two categories: studies that assess the legality of Kenduri based on Islamic values and studies that examine the values embedded within the practice. However, research on the community's reception and the essence of Kundangan in the context of Living Hadith remains limited. This study focuses on the examination of Living Hadith related to Kundangan during the last ten days of Ramadan as practiced by the community of Dasin Village, Tambakboyo Subdistrict, Tuban Regency, using Karl Mannheim's sociology of knowledge approach. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study approach to understand this phenomenon holistically. The findings indicate that the objective meaning of the Kundangan tradition during the last ten days of Ramadan is a heritage from ancestors that involves rituals, such as reading the Qur'an, praying, and giving food parcels to guests. The expressive meanings of the Kundangan tradition vary, including views of it as ancestral heritage, the belief that ancestral spirits are present in the home and should be sent the rewards of charity, anticipation of the Night of Qadr, and efforts to maintain social relationships. The documentary meaning of the Kundangan tradition reflects an acculturation between Javanese cultural beliefs and the values of Hadith. These findings show that the Kundangan tradition is a method used by Kiai (Islamic scholars) to implement Hadith values, blending them with the local culture.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the interesting objects of study to be researched in the current era is related to gender issues. One of the interesting gender issues is related to the hadith which prohibits a woman from traveling except with her mahram or husband. The scholars in responding to this hadith tend to establish strict laws, namely, it is forbidden for women to travel alone. This is interesting to study because now many women are traveling alone due to many reasons, such as economic and educational problems. Therefore, the authors are interested in researching and reinterpreting the meaning of the prohibition of traveling for women except with their husbands or mahrams using the ma’na-cum-maghza approach. This aims to determine the historical significance of hadith and its significance today. The results of this study indicate that women are prohibited from traveling alone without being accompanied by a mahram or husband due to safety factors that were not guaranteed at the time of the Prophet. As for traveling today, if it is safe to travel alone, it is permissible for a woman to travel alone. However, if the current situation is dangerous on the road or at the destination and a woman can’t travel alone, then there must be someone who can look after her.[Salah satu obyek kajian yang menarik untuk diteliti di era sekarang adalah terkait isu-isu gender.

Abstract

In his Koreksi Terjemah Harfiyah al-Qur`an, Muḥammad Ṭālib, the amÄ«r of the Majelis Mujahidin Indonesia, accuses the official Qur'ânic translation by the Indonesian Ministry of Religion for containing digression and at the same time- supporting radicalism. This article wants to describe and examine Ṭālib's argumentations. It finds that Ṭālib's inappropriate methodology lets him criticize the manuscript over-confidently. First, He has only read it partially and could not catch the whole meaning it provides. Second,  ignoring the fact that the exegetes whom he was referring to may provide alternatives for one particular word, Ṭālib has uncarefully treated his sources. Key word: Qur'ânic translation, Indonesian Ministry of Religion, Muḥammad Ṭālib, examine validation

Abstract

This research examines reinterpretations by Kiai Maemon Zubair in reading Tafsir al-Jalalain. Researchers overlook this area. This research explores Maemon’s reception in reading Tafsir al-Jalalain, the factors influencing Maemon’s reception, and its implications. This research is classified as qualitative research with a content analysis study using Stuart Hall’s reception analysis framework. The research results show that Maemon’s reception in reading Tafsir al-Jalalain can be categorized as a dominant-hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional position. Tafsir al-Jalalain, namely: differences in geographic location between Maemon and the author of Tafsir al-Jalalain, differences in the reasoning of Maemon and the author as well as strengthening ideology. Maemon’s reception, which is not always in line with al-Jalalain’s text, proves that learning in Islamic boarding schools is not always textual and only fixates on classical texts.

Abstract

This paper contains the mission of Islamism wrapped in the translation of the Qur'an. Freedom of speech which began in the reform era in Indonesia caused mass organizations that voiced the ideology of their group's thoughts to appear in front of the public. Muhammad Talib came to the surface to voice his opinions by criticizing the government when it was deemed not in accordance with his understanding. One of Muhammad Talib's criticisms of the government was through the interpretation of the interpretation and his correction of the Ministry of Religion's translation. As chairman of the Indonesian Mujahidin Council (MMI), Talib often calls on the general public and general institutions such as the government to implement Islamic law. One of the efforts made is to guide the discourse of Islamism through his translation of the Qur'an. This paper includes library research using a discrete analysis methodology. While the approach (approach) used is critical discourse analysis socio-cognitive approach. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that Muhammad Talib's translation of Tafsiriyah tends to direct the interpretation of the verses of the Qur'an according to his ideology, invites readers to always obey Islamic teachings and apply Islamic Shari'ah in their entirety in daily life and invites Muslims to be loyal to all forms of Islamic struggle. In addition, he also openly criticized the government system of Muslim countries which he thought were not in accordance with the Shari'ah that he understood.
