Abstract

Childbirth via the caesarean section (SC) method is a complex event that is stressful and causes anxiety. Anxiety in mothers before caesarean section surgery, if not handled properly, will have a negative impact on the mother and the baby being born. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of hand massage on anxiety levels in preoperative Sectio Caesaria patients at Kembangan Regional Hospital. This research method is quantitative research that uses a pre-experimental method with a one group pre-test and post-test approach. This research involved 18 respondents using purposive sampling technique. The instrument used was an anxiety questionnaire from the Zung Self-rating Anxiety Scale (ZSAS) which consisted of 20 statements. The results of the study showed that the level of anxiety before being given the handmassage intervention was moderate anxiety (61.11%) and after being given the handmassage intervention it became mild anxiety (72.22%). The results of the Paired sample t-test obtained a p-value of 0.000 (α = 0.05), so it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of providing hand massage intervention on the anxiety level of pre-cesarean section patients. Suggestions from the results of this research are that it is hoped that nurses can provide independent intervention to reduce the anxiety level of patients before caesarean section surgery by providing hand massage interventions so that patients can undergo surgery in peace.

Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is one of the leading global health problems and is often a complication of various degenerative diseases such as hypertension and diabetes. The prevalence of stroke as a degenerative condition has reached approximately 104.2 million people worldwide over the past three years. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of auricular acupressure in reducing depression among stroke patients. Methods: A randomized controlled trial design was used involving 24 respondents. Depression levels were measured before and after the intervention. Result: The findings revealed that the mean depression score before the intervention was 63.9 (SD =8.76), which significantly decreased to 50.6 (SD = 9.47) after the intervention. The effect size analysis yielded a value of -3.97, indicating a substantial effect of the intervention. Moreover, the p-value of 0.000 confirmed the statistical significance of this reduction. Conclusion: These findings support the hypothesis that auricular acupressure is effective in reducing depression levels among stroke patients. However, the study is limited by its small sample size and single-site setting, which may affect the generalizability of the results. Further studies with larger and more diverse populations are recommended.

Abstract

Introduction: Stroke is a leading cause of long-term disability and mortality worldwide. One of the most common complications following a stroke is cognitive impairment, which significantly affects the patient’s quality of life. Acupuncture, as a complementary therapy, has been widely used to support neurological recovery, including improvements in cognitive function. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture in improving cognitive function among post-stroke patients. Method: A randomized controlled trial was conducted involving nine post-stroke patients undergoing acupuncture therapy. Cognitive function was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test. Result: The average cognitive function score increased from 18.6 (SD = 4.16) before the intervention to 28.2 (SD = 3.93) after the intervention, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.001). The most substantial improvement was observed in the eighth session, with a mean increase of 8 points. Conclusion: Acupuncture is effective in enhancing cognitive function among post-stroke patients. It can serve as a supportive complementary nursing intervention in stroke rehabilitation programs.
