Abstract

This research addresses the gap in the exploration of intercultural communication skills within Islamic higher education, focusing on Universitas Islam Internasional Darullughah Wadda"™wah. The study aims to unravel the nuanced landscape of global citizenship cultivation in this specific context, emphasizing the distinct features of Islamic higher education. Employing a survey design, data was gathered from 25 undergraduate students, revealing insights into their perceptions and applications of intercultural communication skills. The findings indicate a high level of awareness among students of cultural nuances, with a simultaneous recognition of challenges in practical application. While students demonstrate a positive orientation towards adaptability and cultural sensitivity, the study highlights areas for targeted interventions, particularly in translating theoretical knowledge into practical scenarios. The implications of this research extend to the refinement of educational practices within Islamic higher education institutions, emphasizing the importance of aligning theoretical understanding with practical application for effective global citizenship cultivation

Abstract

The development of speaking fluency and self-efficacy remains a significant challenge for Islamic undergraduate students, particularly in contexts where English is not the primary medium of instruction. Despite extensive research on debate as a pedagogical strategy, limited studies have examined its effectiveness in an Islamic-themed context, where content is deeply rooted in religious and academic discourse. This study addresses this gap by investigating how Islamic-themed debate enhances speaking fluency and self-efficacy among Islamic university students. Employing a sequential mixed-methods approach, the research was conducted at Universitas Islam Internasional Darullughah Wadda’wah. The study involved a survey with 30 Islamic university students using a questionnaire assessing fluency (lexical resource, syntactic complexity, discourse cohesion, and speech rate) and self-efficacy (confidence, anxiety control, and perceived competence). Additionally, structured interviews with six selected participants provided deeper insights into students’ perceptions and challenges. The findings indicate that Islamic-themed debate significantly improved students’ fluency by fostering spontaneous speech production, enhancing lexical variety, and reducing hesitations. Participants also demonstrated increased confidence, reduced speaking anxiety, and a greater sense of control over their speech delivery. The integration of Islamic content into debate activities facilitated meaningful engagement, encouraging critical thinking and argumentation within an Islamic framework. These results suggest that Islamic-themed debate is an effective pedagogical approach for improving both speaking fluency and self-efficacy. The study highlights the need for curriculum designers to incorporate debate-based activities in English language programs at Islamic universities, ensuring alignment with students’ linguistic and religious backgrounds to maximize engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research addresses the gap in the literature regarding tailored Extensive Reading Program (ERP) in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) within Islamic higher education. Recognizing the need for context-specific language interventions, the study aimed to investigate the pedagogical insights and outcomes of implementing a Tailored ERP at Universitas Islam Internasional Darullughah Wadda"™wah. The research design involved a survey study with 30 Islamic undergraduate students, employing a close-ended questionnaire divided into three sections to gauge participants' perceptions of the program's structure, relevance of reading materials, and improvements in language and academic skills. Results indicated overwhelmingly positive responses, revealing significant enhancements in reading comprehension, vocabulary acquisition, and critical thinking. The Tailored ERP demonstrated its adaptability in fostering intrinsic motivation, proactive learning, and positive attitudes towards English within an Islamic educational context. The implications of these findings extend to pedagogical practices in EAP, emphasizing the relevance of tailored language programs in diverse cultural and linguistic environments. Limitations include a small sample size and single-institution focus. Future research should explore long-term impacts and transferability to different contexts. This study provides insights for educators seeking effective language interventions in Islamic higher education, highlighting the potential of tailored ERP to cultivate holistic language development and academic engagement.

Abstract

This research sought to examine the difficulties encountered by educators and students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in the context of English language learning. Instructing students with ADHD presents a myriad of challenges, particularly in the realm of foreign language acquisition. Educators experience heightened stress levels in response to these challenges, as considerable energy and time are expended in addressing the unique needs of students with ADHD. Employing a descriptive qualitative research design, this study enlisted the participation of three educators responsible for fifth and eighth-grade classes within inclusive educational settings. Data were gathered through structured interviews with the educators, direct observation of the teaching and learning processes, and scrutiny of pertinent documents. The findings illuminated several challenges faced by English teachers, including time and energy constraints, emotional and behavioral issues, failure to meet educational targets, and a limited mastery of effective teaching methodologies. Notwithstanding the myriad challenges encountered, educators expressed a sense of satisfaction and joy in the process of teaching students with ADHD.

Abstract

The objective of this Community Service (PkM) activity is to mentor religious activities aimed at shaping the religious character of students at Arjasa Kangean Vocational High School (SMK), Sumenep Regency, located in the coastal area. The background of this activity is the existing character crisis in education and the urgent need to instill religious values through consistent habituation, considering that SMK Arjasa had never organized religious activities since its establishment in 2017. The implementation method was carried out through three stages: observation, execution, and evaluation, spanning from January 2 to January 25, 2024. The mentoring activities included routine congregational Dhuhr prayers, regular Islamic studies, and the provision of social assistance to the underprivileged community. The results of the PkM show a positive impact on the students, namely increased discipline and obedience in performing prayers, acquisition of new religious knowledge, and the growth of caring and mutual help attitudes towards the surrounding environment through social service activities. This mentoring program is recommended for continuation so that the students' religious character is sustainably embedded.
