Abstract

Sasirangan is a batik originating from South Kalimantan. The batik industry produces cloudy and concentrated liquid waste, so efforts are needed to reduce the negative impacts. The manufacture of cempedak wood activated carbon has been carried out. This research aims to determine the adsorption efficiency of cempedak wood active carbon on sasirangan waste using the UV-Vis test. Cempedak wood activated carbon is made using a carbonation and activation process. The activators used in the research are basic and neutral compounds, namely NaOH and ZnCl2. The research results showed that cempedak wood activated carbon with ZnCl2 activator showed a higher adsorption efficiency value of 31% compared to the NaOH activator whose adsorption efficiency value was 2%. Based on the observation results, it can be concluded that cempedak wood activated carbon with ZnCl2 activator is more effective than NaOH activator.

Abstract

Abstract: The need for paper in academic activities is still very high, resulting in high quantity of paper waste. Efforts to reduce paper waste and preserve nature are by reprocessing paper waste into seed paper which can be reused and can support green chemistry principles. Implementation methods include: 1) Preparation Stage, 2) Production Stage, and 3) Publication Stage. The product manufacturing was carried out on November 20th 2023 at the chemistry laboratory Laboratory of UIN Antasari Banjarmasin and the product results were published on December 21 2023 via Instagram Live Streaming. Processing waste paper into recycled seed paper using natural dyes into eco-friendly products is a solution to minimize the impact of paper waste and might become a business opportunity if developed further. This recycled paper still needs further research to see the quality of the paper produced. Keywords: Recycled seed paper; eco-friendly; green chemistry   Abstrak: Kebutuhan kertas pada kegiatan akademik masih sangat tinggi, sehingga menimbulkan limbah kertas yang tinggi pula. Upaya untuk mengurangi limbah kertas dan melestarikan alam adalah dengan mengolah kembali limbah kertas menjadi kertas benih yang dapat digunakan kembali dan dapat mendukung prinsip kimia hijau. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi: 1) Tahap Persiapan, 2) Tahap Produksi, dan 3) Tahap Publikasi. Pelaksanaan pembuatan produk dilakukan pada tanggal 20 November 2023 di laboratorium kimia kampus 2 Universitas Islam Negeri Antasari Banjarmasin di Banjarbaru dan hasil produk dipublikasikan pada tanggal 21 Desember 2023 melalui Live Streaming Instagram. Pengolahan limbah kertas menjadi kertas benih recycle menggunakan pewarna alami menjadi produk eco-friendly merupakan solusi untuk meminimalisir dampak limbah kertas dan dapat menjadi peluang usaha jika dikembangkan lebih lanjut. Kertas daur ulang ini masih perlu dilakukan penelitian lebih lanjut untuk melihat kualitas kertas yang dihasilkan. Kata kunci: Kertas benih daur ulang; ramah lingkungan; kimia hijau
