Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the Technical and Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) program in the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro using the Kirkpatrick model. The model provided a very reliable and valuable framework for evaluating education and technical training or programs with four levels of Behaviour, Learning, Reaction, and Outcome/Impact. The study population is 14290 students registered during the 2021/2022 academic session of the Institution. Krejcie and Morgam's (1974) sampling technique was adopted to have a 375 sample size for questionnaire administration purposes. The study purposively selected 375 sample sizes among the graduating classes in three out of five faculty, in which the institution was divided, to represent fifty percent of the stratification. The choice of graduating classes is to have those that are about to complete their academic program, and have gone through TVET-inclined programs for self-evaluation on the changes in their behavior, learning, reaction, and noticeable outcome-impact of TVET program on them in their immediate business environment. Descriptive and inferential statistics were adopted for analysis. The result of the findings through regression analysis produced an Adjusted R-Square of -0.005, F Statistics of 0.363, and a significant value of 0.780, which indicate that Learning, Behaviour, and Reaction did not influence the Outcome or Result of the TVET program. It was concluded that learning, reaction, and behavior were adequate in the TVET program with most respondents agreeing to the variables used to test the three levels, but had no influence on the Outcome/Impact on the improvement in the trainee’s life after the program in the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Nigeria.

Abstract

Technical, Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) has been identified as an effective strategy for improving socio-economic development of both developing and developed nations. This study aims at assessing the student’s experience of service quality of TVET in the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Nigeria. The study reviewed concept of service quality and TVET, reviewed of previous findings from related studies and adopted SERVQUAL model as framework for the study. The population of the study comprised of about 10,250 student during 2021/2022 academic session in the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro, Nigeria. The study adopted Krejcie and Morgan sampling technique to have 375 sample size. Primary and secondary sources of data collection were adopted for the study. Data collected were analysed through descriptive and inferential statistics of frequency distribution table, percentage, mean value and linear regression analysis. The study discovered that physical facilities, comfortable classroom, adequate academic resources and appearance of physical facilities are highly ranked tangibility of TVET. Lecturer’s good knowledge, lecturer’s politeness and security measures are highly ranked in assurance of TVET and support staff fairness, lecturers sincere interest on student and lecturer’s teaching capability are highly ranked reliability of TVET. Also, lecturer’s adequate capacity, treatment of complaints by student and support staff availability are highly ranked responsiveness of TVET and, polytechnic fair treatment, support staff attention to students and lecturer’s support to individual students are highly ranked empathy of TVET in the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State Nigeria. Abstract

Lagos is famous for its high traffic congestion and insufficient road infrastructure. This study examined the effect of BRT management and its influence on mobility in Lagos State. The study adopted a cross-sectional design involving data gathering through the primary data collection method using a closed-ended questionnaire purposively administered to 100 commuters of BRT buses in Lagos. The findings revealed a high positive relationship between managing the BRT system and mobility in Lagos State. Additionally, the findings indicate a robust and positive causal relationship between Lagos State’s BRT system and transportation development. The BRT system contributes to improving transportation infrastructure and other related aspects within Lagos State, and this relationship is statistically significant. With p < 0.05, the relationship is not due to chance. However, the findings revealed that the inaccessibility of BRT buses, insecurity at the BRT stations, and the inability to integrate the BRT service with other transportation systems were the major constraints that bedevilled the BRT project in easing the mobility of Lagos residents. The study concluded that the BRT system management contributed significantly to Lagos State’s transportation development. This study recommended that Lagos should adopt a thorough and well-rounded transportation strategy that views the BRT network as a component of a wider network that includes buses, mini-buses, ferries, and other forms of transit.
