Abstract

Land subsidence is a geological phenomenon caused by underground compression. This phenomenon develops slowly and not only causes damage to infrastructure but also causes environmental changes and geological disasters. The problem of subsidence in the city of Semarang has caused various damages. This phenomenon is influenced by, among others, the burden of infrastructure and changes in groundwater levels. Subsidence analysis was carried out at two drill points (BM-03 and BM-04). The calculation method based on the loading factor is carried out using the Terzaghi one-dimensional primary consolidation equation with the assumption of additional effective pressure from light structures (residential houses), apartments and runways. Analysis of the calculation of subsidence due to groundwater subsidence using the finite element numerical method with the help of Plaxis 2D 8.6 software. The results of the subsidence analysis based on the loading and subsidence of the groundwater table were then validated with the rate of land subsidence based on subsidence monitoring data using the Geodetic GPS tool for the period 2011 – 2018. Based on the calculation of subsidence in the period 2011 – 2018, the loading is assumed to be 18.4 kN/m2 will cause subsidence in BM-03 of 27.37 cm and BM-04 of 43.49 cm. The decrease in groundwater level for the 2011-2018 period will cause land subsidence in BM-03 of 62.20 cm and BM-04 of 28.90 cm. The results of monitoring the measurement of subsidence that occurred in BM-03 were 96.32 cm and BM-04 were 103.34 cm. The difference in the value of the results of measurements and calculations of subsidence due to loading and subsidence of groundwater is estimated to be caused by natural consolidation factors, with a contribution in BM-03 of 6.75 cm and BM-04 of 30.95 cm.

Abstract

In the nothern part of Bekasi Regency, the soil layers are dominated with alluvial deposit, especially clay and silt deposit. It makes the potential of the settlement in this area is getting higher. In this research, Cone Penetration Test (CPT) have been done to determine the soil layers from the surface till the 20 meters depth and to identify other soil properties, such as unit weight, compression index, swelling index, void ratio, etc. This research aims to analyze the total settlement in the northern part of Bekasi Regency based on CPT data. The total settlement is calculated by using the theory of One-Dimensional Primary Consolidation based on CPT data. The research area shows that the highest result of total settlement calculation is in the northern part of research area which directly adjacent to the Java Sea. It can be happened because the clay layers in northern part is way thicker than the other area.

Abstract

The study area is located in Semarang, representing a coastal and industrial zone where groundwater exploited as main water resources. Seawater instrusion has been identified as a significant issue in coastal regions due to its impact on groundwater quality. The study was conducted using groundwater data from deep aquifers (bore wells). The physical and chemical contents were analyzed to determine the groundwater characteristics and identify the seawater intrusion. Piper and Durov diagram were used to determine the hydrochemical facies and the main processes that influence the chemical content in groundwater. The Cl vs Na/Cl ratio diagram were used to identify the source of Cl and Na ions, determining weather the ions originate from anthropogenic activites or seawater intrusion. The Physical properties of groundwater show that the groundwater in the study area is divided into 2 group: a freshwater group with TDS value <1000 mg/L and a brackish water group with TDS value ranging from 1000 – 4006 mg/L. The results of hydrochemical analysis indicates the occurrence of seawater intrusion in some locations. Seawater intrusion in the study area mainly occurs in the northern part of Semarang city which relatively near with coastal line. The seawater intrusion also occurs in the eastern part of study area (Demak) with a more severe level, reaching areas at a further distance from coastal line compared to Semarang city.
