Abstract

Physical fitness is explored in relation to muscle strength. Back pain is a musculoskeletal complaint that often occurs in productive young adults in today's digital era. The aim of the service activity is to increase knowledge regarding muscle strength training to prevent back pain and early detection of factors that cause back pain. The method of implementing the activity is screening for BMI, back pain, muscle endurance and education on back strengthening exercises. Educational and examination activities were carried out on Friday 10 November 2023 at 15.00-18.00 attended by 25 participants with 11 male participants and 14 female participants. The average age of service participants was 24.32 years, in the range of 20-28 years. There were 15 participants with overweight and obesity nutritional status. There were 18 participants who often experienced stiffness in their shoulders and back during activities. There were 22 participants who often experienced back pain, 14 participants had never done muscle strength training and 1 participant did exercise more than 5 times in 1 week. Health education is also carried out regarding the knowledge that there is no need to be afraid to move actively if the shoulder or back muscles are weak or tense. Abstract

Nutritional status has a significant impact on the growth and development of children. In Indonesia, the prevalence of nutritional status is as follows: 4% (very thin), 7.2% (thin), 10.8% (overweight), and 8% (obese), as determined by body mass index/age. This can be affected by a variety of variables, including socioeconomic status, personal hygiene, and lifestyle. In the odd semester of 2024, Panyaweuyan Elementary School is populated by 285 students in total. The objective of this service endeavor is to conduct early nutritional status screenings for pupils and girls attending Panyaweuyan Elementary School. By assessing the nutritional status of children through anthropometric measurements such as height, weight, and body mass index, this service activity is developed utilizing the PDCA method. The findings from the assessments indicate that while the majority of pupils enrolled at Panyaweuyan Elementary School possess a healthy nutritional status, a subset remains obese and has a compromised nutritional status. Early detection is critical for preventing and treating nutritional issues in children so that they may develop to their full potential.

Abstract

Depression is a common mental disorder in the elderly, associated with emotional distress, increased health care costs, the risk of suicide, and death from other causes. Depression in the elderly is characterised by persistent sadness, helplessness, anhedonia, changes in appetite, sleep disturbances, psychomotor retardation or agitation, fatigue, impaired concentration, and suicidal ideation. Prevalence varies between 7 and 30%, higher in women. Risk factors include bereavement, social isolation, and somatic diseases, which are more common in old age. Depression increases the risk of dementia, morbidity, and mortality, emphasising the need for early screening. This activity uses the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method to screen for depression in 61 elderly participants at the Hana Nursing Home using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) questionnaire. The examination results revealed mild, moderate, and severe depression in 8 people (13.11%), 4 people (6.56%), and 2 people (3.28%), respectively. Early detection using GDS is essential for timely intervention, including counselling and medical advice, to improve quality of life and reduce depression-related morbidity and mortality in the elderly population.

Abstract

Obesity, central obesity, and hypercholesterolemia are prevalent yet often unrecognized health conditions that significantly elevate the risk for various non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and cardiovascular disorders. These conditions, when left undiagnosed and untreated, contribute to the growing public health burden worldwide. This community service program was designed to raise awareness and provide early detection of these conditions through basic health screening measures, including body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and blood cholesterol levels. The program was implemented in Tomang Subdistrict, West Jakarta, where 90 participants were involved. The findings from the screening revealed concerning results: 67% of the participants were classified as obese, and 58% had central obesity, both of which are major risk factors for NCDs. A deeper analysis of lifestyle factors highlighted that high-fat diets, sedentary behaviors, and night shift work were significant contributors to the high rates of obesity and metabolic abnormalities observed. The educational outreach component of the program, which included the provision of information about healthy diets, exercise, and the importance of regular health screenings, proved to be effective in raising awareness about these health issues. Moreover, the simple health screening process was well-received by the community and contributed to a greater understanding of individual health risks. This initiative is expected to serve as a sustainable model for promoting health and preventing metabolic diseases in the community. The findings underscore the importance of early detection and education as critical strategies in the fight against obesity and related NCDs, suggesting that such programs can play a key role in reducing the future burden of chronic diseases in underserved populations
