Abstract

This article discusses the implementation of the Text-Based Approach (TBA) within the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in junior high schools. The TBA aims to enable learners to communicate orally and written in target language (English). The CBC, on the other hand, focuses on mastery of skills and knowledge, allowing learners to progress at their own pace. The integration of these two approaches is crucial for effective teaching and learning outcomes. This article highlights the importance of understanding the principles of CBC and TBA to enhance educational tactics and improve learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigates test anxiety among students at Aek Hayuara Sibuhuan Islamic Boarding School during formative assessments in English learning and explores the factors contributing to their anxiety. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research selected participants through purposive sampling. Data collection methods included closed-ended questionnaires and interviews. The findings reveal that the majority of students experience test anxiety, which manifests in two key dimensions: emotionality and worry. Furthermore, four primary factors contribute to this anxiety: fear of failing the course, psychological distress, poor study skills, and low self-esteem.
