Abstract

Objectives—This pilot project, aimed at investigating body type, strength, and flexibility as risk factors for injury amongst Bina Guna College of Sports and Health Students, has yielded significant findings. Methods—Fifteen subjects volunteered to participate in the present study. An ex-post facto study design using independent samples was employed. Injury history was established through the use of a questionnaire. From this information, each individual's injury status was categorized as "high" or "low" using a previously designed and validated scoring system. Body-type ratings were determined, followed by tests to assess muscular endurance, strength, and flexibility. Results—A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) revealed no significant difference between groups of low and high injury rates and the dependent variables selected. However, the univariate analysis suggested trends indicating that the low-injury subjects were more flexible (back extension and ankle dorsiflexion) than those who reported more injuries (P=0.013). Independent t-tests revealed that between groups of low and high injury rates, there were significant age differences (P=0.002), stature (P=0.006), body mass (P=0.001), and years of gymnastics training (P=0.016). Conclusions—In the present study, strength, and body type proved not to be good indicators of an individual's susceptibility to injury. However, trends suggest low flexibility levels may predispose a gymnast to injury. The incidence of injury may also be related to the number of years an individual has participated in competitive gymnastics. In addition, older, taller, and heavier gymnasts may be at greater risk of injuries. These findings are crucial for the development of tailored training methods and injury prevention strategies, and they have significant implications for coaches in selecting and training future gymnasts

Abstract

This research investigates the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model in improving the shooting skills of eighth-grade students in football at MTS Darul Ilmi during the 2022/2023 academic year. The study applied a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles involving 27 students. Each cycle included the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection was carried out through lesson plans, observation sheets, and documentation, and analyzed using percentage-based descriptive statistics. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ shooting performance: the average score increased from 75 in cycle I (59.26% mastery) to 86 in cycle II (88.89% mastery), surpassing the minimum learning target of 75%. Moreover, students showed higher engagement, focus, and confidence during learning activities. The implementation of PBL successfully created an interactive and enjoyable learning environment that positively influenced motivation and achievement. The study concludes that integrating the PBL model into physical education effectively enhances football shooting skills and fosters active learning behavior among junior high school students.

Abstract

Motor competency is a foundational component of adolescent physical development, influencing both health outcomes and long-term activity participation. However, evidence on the reliability of comprehensive motor skill assessments in Indonesian high schools remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the test–retest reliability of a six-item sports motor competency battery in Indonesian high school students. Sixty adolescents (aged 15–17) from Perbaungan, North Sumatra, completed standardized assessments including sprint, vertical jump, agility, push-up, sit-and-reach, and medicine ball throw tests. A one-week interval separated repeated trials, and Intraclass Correlation Coefficients (ICC), Standard Error of Measurement, and Bland–Altman analyses were employed. Results demonstrated excellent reliability across all measures (ICC = 0.89–0.97) with minimal measurement error and no gender differences. Small but non-significant learning effects were observed in vertical jump and push-up performance. These findings confirm that the battery provides consistent, dependable metrics suitable for physical education monitoring, talent identification, and longitudinal adolescent motor competency research.
