Abstract

Tooth loss is a condition influenced by various factors, including caries, periodontal disease, trauma, and genetic factors, and it can significantly affect quality of life. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that tooth loss remains a global health issue, with a prevalence of approximately 7% among individuals aged 20 years and older. In Indonesia, data from the 2025 health screening program indicate that approximately 37% of the population aged 0–60 years experience tooth loss. This study aimed to analyze the effect of removable dentures on the quality of life of edentulous patients at the Dental and Oral Health Education Hospital of Hasanuddin University. This study employed a descriptive quantitative cross-sectional design. A total of 30 edentulous patients aged 60–75 years, recorded in the Integration II register from July to August 2025, were selected using purposive sampling. Quality of life data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression with SPSS software. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a mean age of 65 years. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant effect of removable denture use on the quality of life of edentulous patients (p = 0.028; α = 0.05). In conclusion, the use of removable dentures significantly improves the quality of life of edentulous patients.

Abstract

This study is based on the importance of service quality as a primary factor in determining patient satisfaction, particularly in pediatric dental care. This study aimed to determine the effect of patient services in the Integrated Pedodontics Clinic on patient satisfaction at the Hasanuddin University Dental and Oral Teaching Hospital (RSGMP). This study used a quantitative approach method with a cross-sectional design and data collection techniques through questionnaires distributed to 60 parents of patients at the Integrated Pedodontic Polytechnic of RSGMP Unhas. The selected respondents used incidental sampling techniques. The research was carried out in July–August 2025. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression using SPSS. The results of the study indicate that patient care has a positive and significant influence on service satisfaction, with a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.480, meaning that 48% of the variation in service satisfaction is influenced by the quality of patient care. Thus, the better the service provided in the pedodontics clinic, the higher the level of patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Dental caries remains a major oral health problem among children aged 6–10 years and is closely related to parental involvement in maintaining oral hygiene. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between parental role and the occurrence of dental caries in children aged 6–10 years at the Dental and Oral Hospital of Hasanuddin University, Makassar. This research employed a descriptive-analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted from July to August 2025. A total of 109 parent–child pairs who visited RSGMP Unhas and met the inclusion criteria were recruited using purposive sampling. Primary data were collected through interviews with parents using a structured questionnaire to assess parental roles, and direct clinical observation of children to determine dental caries status. Data were processed through editing, coding, entry, and cleaning stages. Descriptive analysis was performed to describe respondent characteristics, while the Chi-square test was used to examine the association between parental role and dental caries occurrence. The results showed that most parents had a good role in maintaining their children’s oral health (98.17%). All children examined (100%) were found to have dental caries. Statistical analysis using the Chi-square test demonstrated a significant relationship between parental role and the occurrence of dental caries, with p-value: 0.0001 (p<0.05). In conclusion, there was a significant association between parental role and dental caries in children aged 6–10 years at RSGMP Unhas Makassar. Strengthening parental involvement in oral health maintenance is essential to prevent and control dental caries in children.
