Abstract

Temboro Village in East Java, known as the "Medina Village" due to its Araban atmosphere, underwent a cultural transformation when the al-Fatah Temboro Islamic Boarding School shifted its preaching orientation from salafiyah-NU to salafiyah-Jamaah Tabligh in 1989. This transformation did not erase NU traditions but rather coexisted harmoniously with the culture brought by Jamaah Tabligh (JT). This study, utilizing a cultural anthropological approach and cultural resilience theory, along with historical research methods, highlights that the influence of JT's da'wah did not alter the identity of the Temboro people as Nahdliyin members. NU traditions continued to thrive, enriched in worship and social aspects. Several factors supported the persistence of NU traditions, including the kiai's background, Al-Fatah Islamic Boarding School's influence, and community support.

Abstract

The following paper aims to explore fundamental questions surrounding the status of the work of renowned orientalist Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje. Although the term "historical genre" naturally arises when reading Mekka in the Latter Part of the 19th Century, this article critically questions whether Hurgronje's work should be categorized as a historical narrative or as a historical source. Through further investigation, this paper elaborates on and reviews the background of the work, provides a broad description of the book's content, analyzes its writing characteristics, and then connects these to the concepts of 'historical writing' and 'historical sources.' Therefore, this article opens a discussion on the nature and purpose of Hurgronje's writings and their relevance as a contribution to understanding the history of Mecca in the late 19th century, including the development of Islamic historiography in Indonesia. The data collection for this paper is based on library research. A historical approach is applied to this study, reinforced by Berelson's Content Analysis theory.

Abstract

Syair Dodaidi, as a form of Acehnese oral tradition, has played a significant role in the social and cultural life of the Acehnese people for centuries. It originally developed as a lullaby sung by mothers to their children, with lyrics containing prayers and praise to Allah SWT. This study aims to examine the transformation of Syair Dodaidi in the context of contemporary Acehnese society. The research methodology uses a historical approach with the stages of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results show that although Syair Dodaidi is still practiced as part of cultural heritage, there have been a number of transformations in the way the poem is maintained and presented en masse. The study observed changes in medium and presentation, but the values contained in Syair Dodaidi - such as character education, spirituality and cultural identity - remain relevant and valued by the people of Aceh. The study reveals that Syair Dodaidi is able to adapt to the contemporary era while maintaining its traditional essence, making it an interesting example of how oral traditions can survive and thrive in the face of changing times
