Abstract

The Master of Ceremony (MC) is a professional event host responsible for guiding and entertaining various events. The MC plays a crucial role in ensuring that events, ranging from formal activities to weddings, run smoothly according to the predetermined schedule provided by event organizers and protocol officers. In addition to this, the MC is tasked with thoroughly understanding the event, as directed by the event organizer. This community service program is organized for the students of SMA Negeri 7 in Senapelan District. Recognizing the significance of fostering and developing Malay culture and the Malay (BMR) region, the Riau Provincial Government has initiated programs in line with the reform era. The primary objective of this program is to enhance the students' abilities to become proficient and professional MCs. The event will focus on interpreting, training, and practicing the art of being an effective MC, particularly for Riau Malay Wedding Receptions.The program aims to contribute to the improvement of MC skills, providing valuable assistance to the students of SMA Negeri 7 in Senapelan District, Pekanbaru. The visiting team from the Faculty of Cultural Studies at Universitas Lancang Kuning is expected to aid the school and its students in understanding Riau Malay culture, with a specific focus on improving MC capabilities for Riau Malay Wedding Receptions. In today's era, those who possess a strong understanding of this field are taking significant strides, and the demand for professionals in this domain is on the rise.

Abstract

The Master of Ceremony (MC) or Host is a figure who plays a central role in directing an event or activity with professionalism and skill in providing entertainment(Meifiliana, 2021). The presence of an MC is inseparable from various events, ranging from formal ones to sacred moments such as the 17th of August Ceremony. As the controller of the event's flow, the MC is responsible for ensuring that every aspect runs according to the schedule set either by themselves or by the event organizers. The MC also ensures that the message conveyed is well received by the audience (Meylina, 2022). This community service activity was held at SMA Negeri 2, Siak Hulu District, Kampar Regency. The purpose of this activity is to provide deep understanding, training, and practical experience for students to become competent and professional MCs in facing the 17th of August Ceremony. It is hoped that the results of this research will make a significant contribution to the development of students' knowledge and understanding regarding the role and skills of an MC, as well as open up broad career opportunities in the professional world in the future. Abstract

Pantun, as a form of Malay oral literature, holds significant aesthetic, educational, and moral values. One prominent type is the pantun nasehat (advisory verse), which functions as a medium for conveying ethical teachings in Malay culture. However, interest and ability among younger generations, particularly students at SMA Negeri 3 Siak Hulu in reading and understanding this form of pantun remain limited. This community service program aimed to enhance students' literacy skills regarding Pantun Nasehat by Tenas Effendy through educational approaches involving lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ understanding of the structure, meaning, and function of pantun nasehat. Based on pretest and posttest evaluations, all participants demonstrated positive progress in their knowledge and appreciation of pantun as a valuable element of Malay cultural heritage. This program also helped strengthen local cultural identity and sparked student interest in preserving oral traditions that are increasingly marginalized by modern developments.

Abstract

The betrothal is conducted before the traditional marriage ceremony is carried out. Betrothal is commonly called an engagement or application process carried out by the male party to the female side. This research was conducted to determine the sanctions in the customary law of the Malay community that apply if one of the bride and groom's parties cancels the betrothal agreement and how the law is carried out. The research uses qualitative methods that are descriptive analysis. This study uses Schleiermacher's romantic hermeneutics, which is a text analysis approach. Based on the results of the research discussion, it can be concluded that the Malays uphold the rules and laws of Islamic sharia in marriage. In this study, there are two versions of customary sanctions adopted by the Malay community. The customary sanction applied in Kuantan Singingi Regency, Kuantan Hilir Seberang District, regarding the annulment of marriage is the agreement of both parties to provide a number of materials to one of the aggrieved parties so that there is no misunderstanding. This sanction is carried out in order to have a deterrent effect on the party who breaks the promise or cancels the marriage.
