Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of learning motivation and students' reading ability on English learning achievements. The research employed a survey method with correlational and regression analysis to investigate the relationship among the variables. The participants were second semester students of the English Education Study Program at Universitas Subang. Data collected through classroom observations, interviews, and students' tests. The findings revealed that learning motivation and reading ability simultaneously had a significant effect on students' English learning achievements (F = 55.024, Sig. = 0.000). The regression model showed a strong relationship (R = 0.812) and explained 65.9% of the variance in English achievement (R² = 0.659). Partially, learning motivation (β = 0.378, t = 5.161, Sig. = 0.000) contributed more strongly (Beta = 0.520) compared to reading ability (β = 0.307, t = 3.697, Sig. = 0.000; Beta = 0.373). These results indicate that students with higher learning motivation and better reading ability tended to achieve better outcomes in English learning. The study concludes that learning motivation plays a more dominant role than reading ability in improving English learning achievements. It suggests that teachers should foster students' motivation alongside reading strategies to enhance their academic success in English.

Abstract

The need for English in the classroom environment greatly influences students' English learning abilities. Therefore, this research will discuss the importance of learning English specifically in certain fields in improving English skills which are supported by material suitable are important for students' needs in ESP classes. The purpose of this research was to find out the problems material using in teaching English Specific Purposes (ESP) program. Therefore, this research will discuss the importance of learning English specifically in certain fields in improving English language skills in ESP classes on the interest of the students means knowing the students’ necessities, lacks, and wants. Not only that, research in ESP class programs wants to know that material according to ability can improve students' English language skills in certain programs. Abstract

Material design for learning English is important for use of students. It is referring to students' needs and interests in ESP classroom. To achieve this goal, ESP teachers organize the material completely by Needs Analysis. Needs analysis determines the language and skills learners require to complete their studies. In this are focus on target need (what the learner needs to do in the order to learn) and learning needs (what the learners need to do in order to learn). The purpose of this research was to determine the role Needs Analysis in curriculum and design material on ESP classroom. This study used a qualitative descriptive. The total in the research 89 participants randomly selected from the total sample population were surveyed about their views regarding the ESP classroom program through questionnaire. Based on responses to questionnaires regarding students' perceptions of learning English in ESP classes, the majority of the students implied to be comfortable accomplishing the course. In needs analysis, students most often choose more representative English language learning meet the need for language skills in the field that result on Strong Agree (SA) 60 is 67,42%, Agree (A) 12 students is 13,48%, Undecided (U) 17 is 19,10%. Meanwhile, respond to need English materials for casual environment/daily conversation with colleagues a small answer was given Strong Agree (SA) 8 is 8,99%, Agree (A) 64 students is 71,91%, Undecided (U) 17 is 19,10%. The outcomes demonstrate the importance of ESP learning, particularly in English material, which is more representative of students.

Abstract

The role of technology in language learning has evolved significantly over the past few decades, with the advent of various tools and applications that enhance the educational experience. Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL) has emerged as a pivotal approach, integrating digital resources to facilitate language acquisition and improve student engagement. This introduction explores the multifaceted impact of technology on language learning, highlighting its benefits, challenges, and implications for both learners and educators. This research aims to analyze students' motivation in learning English by applying deep learning strategies through the Technology Enhanced Language Learning (TELL). This research uses a mixed approach, where quantitative data is obtained through motivation questionnaires, and qualitative data is obtained through in-depth interviews with participating students. The sample was taken by purposive sampling with a total of 34 students for the quantitative survey and for in-depth interviews. There are several findings in improving language learning with TELL: 1) students are more independent in learning language with TELL but need teacher assistance in further understanding the material 2) The teaching materials available in application learning lead to general English learning, while students also have to learn academic English 3) Students feel that studying with applications is more relaxing than studying with friends for several influencing factors. Students’ motivation to increase learning English with the Deep Learning approach with TELL provides insight into how technology and deep learning approaches can increase students' motivation in learning English, as well as providing recommendations for educators to integrate technology more effectively in the learning process.
