Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching materials for writing speech texts using Google Classroom for eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Labuhan Deli and determine their feasibility and practicality. The research used a research and development (R&D) model with a 4D model, including the define, design, and develop stages. This study did not reach the dissemination stage. The subjects consisted of material experts, media experts, teachers, and 10 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Labuhan Deli. The data collection instruments used were validation questionnaires from material experts and media experts to measure product feasibility, and teacher and student response questionnaires to measure product practicality. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively using quantitative and qualitative methods. The results of the study showed that the developed teaching materials met the feasibility criteria, with a validation percentage of 90.38% from material experts and 91.66% from media experts, both of which fell into the "very feasible" category. Furthermore, the results of the practicality test showed that teacher responses were 94.4%, categorized as "very practical," while student responses were 88.95%, categorized as "practical." The resulting product was teaching materials for writing speeches using Google Classroom, presented through a material menu, complete with learning objectives, material descriptions, examples of speeches, writing assignments, and reflections. Therefore, the developed teaching materials were deemed feasible and practical for use in teaching speech writing in eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Labuhan Deli.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the use of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model assisted by documentary video on the ability to write biographical texts of tenth-grade students at SMA Ar Rahman Medan. This research is motivated by the low ability of students in writing biographical texts, particularly in understanding the text structure and linguistic features, as well as the learning process that is still teacher-centered and lacks the use of engaging instructional media. This study employed a quantitative method with an experimental design of two group post-test only design. The population of this study consisted of all ten grade students of SMA Ar Rahman Medan in the 2025/2026 academic year, totaling 40 students, and all were taken as the sample using a saturated sampling technique. The research instruments were a biographical text writing test and an observation sheet. The data analysis techniques included normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental class was 80.73, which was higher than that of the control class, 74.44. Based on hypothesis testing, the value of tcount was 2.13 and ttable was 2.02 at a significance level of 0.05, indicating that tcount > ttable. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. It can be concluded that the use of the Project Based Learning model assisted by documentary video has a significant effect and is effective in improving students’ ability to write biographical texts.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the ability of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 35 Medan in writing news texts using the Project Based Learning model, to determine the ability of students in writing news texts using the direct instruction model, and to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning model on students’ ability in writing news texts. The research method used in this study was a quasi experimental method. The population of this study consisted of all seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 35 Medan. The sample consisted of two classes, namely the experimental class with 32 students and the control class with 31 students. Data were collected through a news text writing test. The data were analyzed using normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing with the t-test. The results showed that the students’ ability in writing news texts using the Project Based Learning model obtained an average score of 81.41 and was categorized as very good. Meanwhile, the students’ ability in writing news texts using the direct instruction model obtained an average score of 70.45 and was categorized as sufficient. Based on the hypothesis testing, it was found that t_count > t_table, namely 3.04 > 2.00 at the significance level α = 0.05 with degrees of freedom (df) = 61. Therefore, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the Project Based Learning model has a significant effect on the ability of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 35 Medan in writing news texts.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the RAFT (Role–Audience–Format–Topic) learning strategy on the ability to write response texts for grade VII students of UPT SMP Negeri 27 Medan. The main problem in this study is the low ability of students to structure response texts as a whole, analyze linguistic elements, and express ideas logically due to the dominance of conventional strategies. This quantitative study used an experimental method with a two-group post-test only design. The research sample consisted of 62 students selected through random sampling techniques, then divided into an experimental class (VII-9, n = 31) with the RAFT strategy and a control class (VII-7, n = 31) with an expository strategy. Data were collected through a written test of writing response texts, then analyzed using the Lilliefors normality test, Fisher's homogeneity test, and the independent sample t-test. The results showed that the average score of the experimental class (76.13) was higher than that of the control class (72.42). Based on the t-test results, the calculated t value = 5.54 was obtained, which was greater than the t table = 2.00 at a significance level of α = 0.05. Thus, H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It can be concluded that the RAFT learning strategy has a significant effect on improving students' ability to write response texts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the quality of the Indonesian Language Final Examination (UAS) questions for grade VII of Public Junior High Schools in Sibolga City for the 2025/2026 Academic Year based on the implementation of the Independent Curriculum. The analysis focused on the suitability of the questions to the Learning Outcomes (CP) and Learning Objectives (TP), the distribution of cognitive levels of the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy, and the characteristics of questions based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The research method used was descriptive qualitative with content analysis techniques. The research objects were UAS question script documents from Public Junior High Schools 2 Sibolga, Public Junior High School 3 Sibolga, and Public Junior High School 4 Sibolga. The results showed that the question material was generally in accordance with CP Phase D, but there were indicators of productive writing skills that had not been accommodated. The distribution of cognitive levels was still dominated by the Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) and Middle Order Thinking Skills (MOTS) categories, while HOTS-categorized questions were still very limited. In fact, one school did not have HOTS-categorized questions at all. The conclusions of this study emphasize the need to improve teacher competency in developing assessment instruments, particularly in distributing cognitive levels proportionally and integrating stimuli that effectively demand students' critical and creative thinking skills.
