Abstract

Gargling with mouthwash can remove bacteria between teeth that are not reached by a toothbrush. The mechanism of action of mouthwash is to clean the oral cavity thoroughly, namely mechanically and chemically. Long-term use of chemical antiseptic mouthwash can cause changes in salivary pH. This experiment was conducted to determine the effect of red ginger boiled water (Z.Officinale var rubrum) on salivary acidity or salivary pH of the oral cavity. The type of research used is quasi experimental research, which is experimental research carried out in only one group called the experimental group without a comparison group or control group. Changes in salivary pH were measured before and after gargling with red ginger boiled water. Red ginger water decoction is proven to increase the pH value of saliva and also has the ability to inhibit bacterial growth so as to maintain the acidity of the oral cavity. Conclusion: There is an increase in salivary pH after gargling with red ginger boiled water.

Abstract

Children aged 6-7 years are vulnerable to oral dental disease. This is because children's knowledge and motor skills are still limited so they are not yet able to carry out oral and dental maintenance activities to the fullest. Lack of motivation in maintaining dental health contributes to the high rate of tooth decay in children of this age. Busy book is one of the media that can be made by yourself so that in addition to increasing children's knowledge about dental health, it can also increase children's creativity. Its attractive appearance makes children feel happy to learn it and easy to understand. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of providing oral health knowledge through Busy Book media in children aged 6-7 years. This research is an experimental quantitative research with a quasy experimental approach, involving 18 grade 1 students at SD 69 Mattirowali, Wajo Regency. Data from this study were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test to see the effect of using Busy Book media on increasing student knowledge. The results showed an increase in students' knowledge after gaining knowledge through Busy Book play activities. The conclusion of this study is that the use of Busy Book media is effective in increasing motivation and knowledge about oral health in children aged 6-7 years.

Abstract

Dental and oral health problems are one of the major complaints in Indonesia, especially dental caries, which is the most prevalent in both adults and children. The high number of dental caries sufferers is inextricably linked to the lack of knowledge about the causes and prevention of dental caries. Research objectives: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between oral health knowledge and the incidence of dental caries in UPTD SD Negeri 74 Barru. This type of research uses an analytical observational research method with a cross-sectional study approach. It involved 58 samples taken by total sampling from the students of SD Negeri 74 Barru. The results showed that most children in SD Negeri 74 Barru had a fairly good knowledge about dental caries and the incidence of dental caries among students in this school was also in the low category. The results of Chi-square test with a significant value of (0.0067), so it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between oral health knowledge and the incidence of dental caries.

Abstract

Dental caries is the most common oral health problem in children and can impact quality of life, especially in eating, speaking, learning, and sleeping activities. The prevalence of childhood caries in Indonesia is still high and requires special attention. This study aims to determine the relationship between the severity of dental caries and the quality of life of children at SDN 5 Benteng, Sidenreng Rappang Regency. This type of study is an observational analytic with a cross-sectional design using a total sampling technique of 70 children in grades 3–5 from a total of 156 students. Caries severity was assessed using the DMFT/deft index according to WHO criteria, while quality of life was measured with a questionnaire covering aspects of eating, speaking, learning, and sleeping disorders. Data analysis was performed univariately, bivariate using the Spearman correlation test, and multivariate with logistic regression. The results showed that most children experienced very high caries severity (41.4%) with the dominant quality of life disturbance in the eating aspect (58.6%). Bivariate testing showed a significant association between caries severity and eating disorders (p=0.013; OR=2.15), but no significant association with speech (p=0.339), learning (p=0.309), or sleep (p=0.379) disorders. The conclusion of this study is that the severity of dental caries is significantly associated with children's quality of life, particularly in terms of eating disorders. However, there was no significant association between speech, learning, and sleep. Efforts to prevent dental caries through education, regular checkups, and promotional programs in schools need to be increased to support children's dental health and quality of life.
