Abstract

This research discusses the comparison between storyboards created manually by students and those generated using an AI Image Generator. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), its usage in education, particularly in visual design, has been increasing. This study investigates whether the outputs generated by AI are comparable to manual work in terms of design principles such as emphasis, rhythm, balance, unity, as well as scale and proportion. Data were collected from the storyboard assignments of BINUS Bandung students in the "Production and Storytelling" course, resulting in five samples that were compared with the output from the AI Image Generator. The results show that AI can accelerate the storyboard creation process and offer more dynamic visual alternatives. However, there are certain aspects that still require a human touch to achieve a more dynamic and expressive visualization. This study concludes that AI can be an effective tool in design education, particularly in helping students develop their visual creativity more efficiently. However, a deeper understanding is needed on how to optimize AI technology to align with the desired learning objectives and visual aesthetics.Penelitian ini membahas perbandingan antara storyboard yang dibuat oleh mahasiswa secara manual dengan storyboard yang dihasilkan menggunakan AI Image Generator. Dengan semakin berkembangnya kecerdasan buatan (AI), penggunaannya dalam bidang pendidikan, khususnya desain visual, semakin meningkat. Studi ini meneliti apakah hasil karya yang dihasilkan oleh AI sebanding dengan karya manual dari segi prinsip desain seperti emphasis, ritme, balance, unity, serta skala dan proporsi. Data dikumpulkan dari tugas storyboard mahasiswa BINUS Bandung di mata kuliah "Production and Storytelling" dan dihasilkan lima sampel yang dibandingkan dengan output dari AI Image Generator. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa AI mampu mempercepat proses pembuatan storyboard dan memberikan alternatif visual yang lebih dinamis.  Meskipun demikian, ada beberapa aspek yang masih memerlukan sentuhan manusia untuk mencapai visualisasi yang lebih dinamis dan ekspresif. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa AI dapat menjadi alat bantu yang efektif pendidikan desain, khususnya dalam membantu mahasiswa mengembangkan kreativitas visual mereka dengan lebih efisien. Namun diperlukan pemahaman lebih dalam tentang cara mengoptimalkan teknologi AI agar sesuai dengan tujuan pembelajaran dan estetika visual yang diinginkan.

Abstract

Makalah ini memberikan pengantar yang komprehensif tentang desain sirkular, yang menyajikannya sebagai pendekatan holistik untuk kehidupan berkelanjutan. Desain sirkular menantang ekonomi linier tradisional "ambil, buat, buang" dengan mempromosikan model regeneratif di mana sumber daya terus digunakan kembali, dipulihkan, dan didaur ulang. Studi ini meneliti prinsip-prinsip utama seperti merancang untuk daya tahan, daur ulang, dan meminimalkan limbah di seluruh siklus hidup produk. Melalui analisis sistem sirkular, makalah ini menyoroti peran desain dalam mengurangi dampak lingkungan dan penipisan sumber daya, sekaligus mendorong ketahanan ekonomi dan kesejahteraan sosial. Selain itu, makalah ini membahas integrasi desain sirkular ke dalam berbagai industri, termasuk mode, teknologi, dan konstruksi, serta potensi praktik-praktik ini untuk merevolusi cara masyarakat mengonsumsi dan memproduksi. Dengan mengadopsi strategi sirkular, pendekatan ini berkontribusi pada mitigasi perubahan iklim, pengurangan limbah, dan pelestarian ekosistem alam. Makalah ini menyimpulkan bahwa desain sirkular menawarkan jalur yang layak menuju pencapaian tujuan pembangunan berkelanjutan, yang membutuhkan kolaborasi interdisipliner dan inovasi lintas sektor. Melalui lensa ini, desain sirkular muncul tidak hanya sebagai kerangka kerja desain praktis tetapi juga sebagai gerakan penting untuk masa depan yang berkelanjutan. This paper provides a comprehensive introduction to circular design, presenting it as a holistic approach to sustainable living. Circular design challenges the traditional linear economy of “take, make, dispose” by promoting a regenerative model where resources are continuously reused, recovered, and recycled. The study examines key principles such as designing for sustainability, recyclability, and minimizing waste throughout a product’s life cycle. Through a circular systems analysis, the paper highlights the role of design in reducing environmental impacts and resource depletion, while promoting economic resilience and social well-being. In addition, the paper discusses the integration of circular design into a range of industries, including fashion, technology, and construction, and the potential for these practices to revolutionize the way society consumes and produces. By adopting circular strategies, this approach contributes to climate change mitigation, waste reduction, and the preservation of natural ecosystems. The paper concludes that circular design offers a viable pathway towards achieving sustainable development goals, requiring interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation across sectors. Abstract

Infographics are widely used for representing data through simpler and more attractive visuals. Infographics are integrated in editorial design as part of the role of layout, and thus, are comprehensively utilized in various media such as magazines, newspapers, report books, internet articles, as well as exhibition space media such as museums. Understanding infographic layout in Visual Communication Design Study Program, became one of the topic taught to students in Computer Graphic I course. However, in practice, the delivery method might not be fully understood by some students. This study conducted to determine how far students can understand layout material, especially in the application of basic design principles as basic theory in designing infographic. The output is expected to provide an evaluation and improvement in learning, especially regarding infographic layout design for the next period. Infografis adalah media yang saat ini banyak digunakan untuk merepresentasikan sebuah data melalui visual yang lebih sederhana dan menarik. Infografis merupakan bagian dari editorial desain yang tidak lepas dari peran layout didalamnya, sehingga banyak digunakan diberbagai media seperti majalah, surat kabar, buku laporan, artikel internet, hingga media ruang pamer seperti musium. Pemahaman tentang layout infografis khususnya di Program Studi Desain Komunikasi Visual menjadi salah satu topik materi yang diajarkan kepada mahasiswa, terutama pada mata kuliah Komputer Grafis I. Akan tetapi pada prakteknya, penyampaian materi tentang layout tidak sepenuhnya dapat langsung dipahami oleh sebagian mahasiswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui seberapa jauh mahasiswa dapat memahami materi layout, khususnya dalam penerapan prinsip elemen desain sebagai teori dasar dalam merancang sebuah karya desain infografis. Luaran yang diharapkan dari penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi sebuah evaluasi dan perbaikan dalam pembelajaran khususnya dalam materi mengenai layout infografis pada mata kuliah Komputer Grafis I.
