Abstract

Immoral behavior in children and adolescents includes actions that violate prevailing social and moral norms and demonstrate a disregard for ethical principles and societal rules. Complex interactions between genetic, environmental, and social factors influence the development of immoral behavior in children. This study has the main objective to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the characteristics of immoral acts experienced by underage victims who were recorded or treated at the Bhayangkara Hospital Makassar during one year, namely 2024. The approach taken in this study is a descriptive method with a retrospective design, where all data is collected systematically from cases that occurred and were recorded from January to December 2024. There were 192 victims of immoral acts involving children, 98.96% of whom were girls and 1.04% of whom were boys. Victims with an age group of <5 years were 5.73%, 5-12 years 33.33%, 13-17 years 60.94%. Victims of sexual violence in children 10.42% experienced physical violence, and 15.63% experienced verbal violence. The perpetrators were 81.77% of people known to the victim. There were more female victims of violence than male victims. The perpetrators of violence were often people known to the victim.

Abstract

Background: Suicide is the most common suicide method found in forensic medicine practice and is a significant cause of death, especially at productive age. Pathophysiologically, self-hanging causes mechanical asphyxia due to ligature pressure on the neck, which inhibits air and blood circulation. An external examination of the body (PLJ) plays an important role in assessing the cause and manner of death, especially if an autopsy is not performed. Case Description: A 36-year-old man was found dead in a hanging position with a blue rope and a dead knot on the right side of his neck. Examination of the outside of the body showed the presence of a circular snare measuring 31 × 0.5 cm, petekie on the eyelids and extremities, cyanosis on the nails and lips, bitten tongue, and discharge of fluid from the genitals. Stiffness of the corpse and bruises of the corpse indicate an estimated time of death in 24–36 hours. No signs of violence or other defensive injuries were found leading to the killing. Conclusions: The findings of the external examination show a typical picture of suicidal hanging. A thorough forensic examination of the body can provide sufficient evidence to support a medical-legal conclusion, even without an autopsy, and can be used as a basis for the preparation of a valid and accurate visum et repertum in the legal process.

Abstract

Traffic accidents are a leading cause of injury and death, particularly among individuals of productive age. This study aims to analyze injury patterns among traffic accident victims at Labuang Baji General Hospital, Makassar, during December 2024, utilizing data from Visum et Repertum (VeR). The Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) assigns severity scores to injuries across different body regions, while the Injury Severity Score (ISS) aggregates these scores to assess overall trauma severity. A retrospective research method was employed, analyzing medical records of accident victims. Collected data included injury locations and types, as well as AIS and ISS scores. Findings indicate that the majority of accident victims were motorcyclists of productive age, who are at higher risk for severe trauma. The most common injury was head trauma. AIS scores varied, with some patients sustaining injuries ranging from minor to severe. The average ISS indicated a level of trauma severity with a favorable prognosis. In conclusion, the application of AIS and ISS systems is effective in evaluating trauma severity among accident victims at Labuang Baji General Hospital. This information is crucial for planning medical management and allocating resources necessary for treating patients with varying degrees of injury severity and and compliance with the Road Traffic and Transportation Law.

Abstract

Drowning-related deaths are often associated with asphyxia due to fluid aspiration into the airways. However, in some cases, the primary cause of death is not drowning itself but rather preceding trauma. This report discusses the case of a man found drowned, where forensic examination revealed extensive subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by severe blunt head trauma. External examination showed livor mortis that did not blanch with pressure, bruises on several parts of the body, and abrasions on the face and extremities. Internal examination revealed cerebral edema and increased intracranial pressure compressing the brainstem. Typical signs of drowning, such as abundant foam in the airways or significant pulmonary edema, were absent. Based on forensic findings, the primary cause of death was respiratory failure due to subarachnoid hemorrhage, rather than drowning. These results highlight the importance of further investigation to determine whether the trauma resulted from an accident or an act of violence before the victim entered the water.

Abstract

Domestic violence (DV) is a human rights violation with potentially severe consequences, particularly for children. This article presents a case report of a 10-year-old girl who suffered physical and psychological abuse by her stepmother. The study employed a qualitative case study method with in-depth interviews. Findings revealed that the child sustained multiple burn injuries and psychological trauma due to repeated abuse. Child abuse impacts not only physical health but also disrupts the child’s mental, emotional, and social development. This study highlights the urgent need for early intervention, legal protection, and the termination of domestic violence cycles to safeguard children’s rights and their future well-being.

Abstract

Background: Domestic violence (DV) is a social and legal issue with far-reaching impacts on victims, including physical, psychological, and social consequences. Law No. 23 of 2004 concerning the Elimination of Domestic Violence (DV Law) serves as the legal foundation for efforts to protect victims of domestic violence. However, its implementation in practice continues to face challenges and has not yet proven fully effective in comprehensively preventing and addressing such cases. According to data from the Ministry of Women Empowerment and Child Protection from January to June 2025, there were 11,343 reported cases of violence in Indonesia. Of these, 85% of the victims were women, and 61% of the incidents occurred within the domestic setting. The number of reported cases in 2024 stood at 31.947 cases, showing an increase from 29.883 cases in 2023. This annual rise in reported violence reflects the growing urgency of the issue. Therefore, understanding domestic violence is crucial as a reflection of concern for human dignity and humanitarian values. Case Description: An 18-year-old woman with initials SAS, was taken to Centra Visum of Bhayangkara Hospital Makassar on May 5, 2025 after being abused by her father. On the morning of May 5, 2025, the victim was pushed by her father, causing her to hit a wall, and was then dragged into the street with her hair pulled. The victim reported that this was the first incident of physical violence, although the relationship between her and the perpetrator had been strained for the past year. The perpetrator consumed methamphetamine and had not provided financial support to the family for the past year. Physical examination revealed a bruise wound on the left side of the head, brush abrasions wound beneath the left eye and lower left cheek, and the right wrist, and scratch abrasions wound on the left knee and the inner front side of the right knee.
