Abstract

Training on processing used newspapers into creative works of high economic value is an innovative step to overcome the problem of waste accumulation and develop local economic potential. Used newspapers, which were previously considered waste, became the focus of this training. Students from the Muhammadiyah Student Association (IMM) A. R. Fachruddin Muhammadiyah University of Parepare were involved in the training process, enabling them to explore their skills and creativity in turning used newspapers into attractive photo frames. Training and mentoring methods, through a participatory model with lectures, discussions, and direct practice, strengthen the application of science and technology to students. The results of the activity show an increase in students' understanding of waste utilization, creating creative products, and applying design concepts that include safety, comfort, and beauty. This activity also encourages entrepreneurial awareness among students, making them potential drivers of the local economy. Empowerment through creativity in managing used newspapers provides solutions to environmental problems and improves the student economy. In conclusion, this training not only changed the view towards waste but also opened up new opportunities in creating high-value products from previously neglected resources.

Abstract

Dependence on expensive conventional feed ingredients encourages substitution with local feed ingredients, including taro leaves. This study examines the effect of adding taro leaf flour (Colocasia esculenta) to the ration on the water content and cooking loss of Mojosari duck meat. The method used was a completely randomized design with four treatments, namely 0% (control), 1%, 3%, and 5% taro leaf flour. Each treatment was repeated five times. The addition of taro leaf flour had a significant effect on the water content and cooking loss of duck meat. The water content of duck meat in the treatment was 0% (68.53%), 1% (69.82%), 3% (69.29%), and 5% (70.37%). The cooking loss of duck meat in the treatment was 0% (16.66%), 1% (20.00%), 3% (23.33%), and 5% (26.66%). From these results, it can be seen that the addition of 1% taro leaf flour did not provide a significant difference in water content and cooking loss compared to the control, while the addition of 3% and 5% gave significantly different results. The addition of 1% taro leaf flour to the ration is the best in maintaining meat quality significantly so it is worthy of being used as an alternative feed ingredient.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan kalsium (Ca)dan posfor (P) silase pakan komplit berbahan dasar jerami jagung (Zea mays)dengan penambahan azolla (Azolla pinnata) sebagai pakan ternak ruminansia.Penelitian silase pakan komplit menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL)dengan 4 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan. Adapun perlakuan pakan komplit yang diterapkan pada penelitian ini adalah :S1= 50% jerami jagung+30% azolla+19%dedak Padi+1% mineral mix, S2= 50% jerami jagung+25% azolla+24% dedakpadi+1% mineral mix, s3= 50% jerami jagung+20% azolla+29% dedakpadi+1% mineral mix, s4= 50% jerami jagung+15% azolla+34% dedakpadi+1% mineral mix. Hasil analisis ragam menunjukan bahwa kandungankalsium silase pakan komplit berbahan dasar jerami jagung (Zea mays) denganpenambahan azolla pada S1, S2, S3, S4 tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05), rataratakandungan kalsium (Ca) pakan yaitu S1 (1,033%), S2 (1,036%), S3(1,17%) dan S4 (0,92%). Perlakuan S1 tidak berbeda nyata dengan perlakuanS2, S3 dan S4, S2 tidak berbeda nyata dengan S1, S3, dan S4, S3 tidak berbedanyata dengan S1, S2, dan S4 dan S4 tidak berbeda nyata dengan S1, S2, dan S3.Sedangkan kandungan kalsium silase pakan komplit berbahan dasar jeramijagung (Zea mays) dengan penambahan azolla pada S1, S2 dan S3 berpengaruhnyata (P<0,05). Rata-rata kandungan fospor pakan yaitu S1(1,%), S2(1,1%),S3(1,17%) dan S4(1,03%). Perlakuan S1 tidak berbeda nyata denganperlakuan S4 dan berbeda nyata dengan S2 dan S3, S2 tidak berbeda nyatadengan S3 dan S4 dan berbeda nyata dengan S1 , S3 berbeda nyata dengan S4dan S1 dan tidak berbeda nyata dengan S2, S4 tidak berbeda nyata dengan S1dan S2 namun berbeda nyata dengan S3. Disimpulkan bahwa penambahanazolla (Azolla) pada level yang berbeda terhadap silase pakan komplitberbahan berbahan dasar jerami jagung (Zea mays) tidak berpengaruh nyataterhadap kandungan kalsium (Ca), namun berpengaruh nyata terhadapkandungan fospor (P). Adapun perlakuan terbaik pada S3 dengan penambahanazolla (Azolla pinnata) 20%.
