Abstract

Introduction: HNP is a degenerative disease where the elasticity of the annulus fibrosus decreases so that it becomes one of the causes of LBP and often occurs in the elderly. One of the roles of physiotherapy in HNP cases can be treated with exercise therapy, with the SNAGS and Mc Kenzie intervention methods as well as with Core Stability and Mc Kenzie. To help improve the functional abilities of the elderly. The purpose of the study is to determine the differences in interventions for Lumbar HNP cases using the SNAGS and Mc Kenzie methods as well as Core Stability and Mc Kenzie on the functional abilities of the elderly. Methods: The design of this study used a quasi-experimental with two groups pre-post test. A sample of 22 people was selected by purposive sampling which was divided into two, namely treatment 1 and treatment 2. The research was conducted for 4 weeks consisting of one pretest, with meetings twice a week with a duration of 30-45 minutes and one post-test. The instrument used is the ODI questionnaire. Results: The result showed that the normality test using the Shapiro-Wilk test resulted in a value of p=0.000, which means it was significant in both treatment groups. From the results of the paired test, it is significant with a value of p = 0.000 meaning p <0.05. The reduction of the difference in the percentage of disability in treatment group 1 was -32.55 per cent, and in treatment group 2 was -37.27 per cent. Conclusion: The conclusion from the study is SNAGS and Mc Kenzie interventions as well as Core Stability and Mc Kenzie can affect the functional abilities of the elderly. With more effective results on Core stability and Mc Kenzie interventions in improving the functional abilities of the elderly with Lumbar HNP conditions.

Abstract

Introduction: Depression is a mental disorder that usually manifests as depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt, difficulty sleeping or lack of appetite and concentration. Methods: This type of research is quasi-experimental with a group pretest and posttest design. With a total population of 38 respondents and a total sample of 20 respondents. By using The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) as a research instrument. The results of examining the data used the GDS questionnaire which was then processed using the Graphpad prism program. Results: The results showed that there was a significant effect by giving elderly exercise 3 times a week for 5 weeks, and there was an insignificant effect by giving static cycle exercise 3 times a week for 5 weeks. In the elderly exercise group, the GDS score showed a significant decrease, whereas in the static cycle exercise treatment group, the GDS score showed a slight decrease, which means not too significant. Conclusion: The conclusions from this study are that there is a significant effect of giving elderly gymnastics on the depression level profile of elderly individuals, there is an insignificant effect by giving static cycle exercise to the depression level profile of elderly individuals in Mranti Village, Purworejo Regency, and elderly gymnastics is more effective than static cycle exercise. The suggestion that can be given is that physiotherapists are more active in providing exercise programs so that elderly people are always active.

Abstract

Introduction: As a person gets older, the functions of his/her body organs decrease. A person will experience many declining abilities, including a decrease in postural balance. Postural balance is the ability to maintain the body in an upright position by aligning the centre of gravity and base of support with appropriate body movements and using minimal muscle activity without excessive muscle contraction. Decreased balance function will increase the risk of falls in the elderly, therefore balance is the most important problem for every elderly. Currently, many methods or types of exercises aim to improve postural balance. One of them is the provision of gymnastics. Tai Chi exercise is an exercise originating from China, which consists of various sequences of movements with the aim of training body coordination and balance. To determine the effectiveness of Tai Chi exercises on postural balance in the elderly. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental method with the research design used was pretest and posttest two group design. The sample in the study was elderly aged 60 years and over with a total of 32 person, where the sample was divided into 2 groups, namely 16 person in the control group and 16 person in the treatment group. The measuring instrument used was the Functional Reach Test which was carried out before and after being given Tai Chi exercises. The research was conducted at RS Hermina Depok, Physiotherapy Clinic, starting from January to March 2023. Results: This study shows that Tai Chi exercises significantly improve postural balance in the elderly (p=0.001). Conclusion: The provision of Tai Chi exercises is significant in improving postural balance in the elderly.
