Abstract

This study examines the concept of sincerity according to Imam Al-Ghazali and its relevance to Islamic religious education. Sincerity is understood as the purification of intentions from all goals other than Allah SWT, while riya' is its opposite which damages the value of good deeds and has a negative impact on the purity of the heart and one's psychological health. This study uses a literature study method by examining Al-Ghazali's work in Ihya' 'Ulumuddin as well as supporting research on tazkiyatun-nafs, moral development, and Islamic educational practices. The results of the analysis show that Al-Ghazali divides sincerity into two forms, namely sincerity in good deeds and sincerity in expecting rewards, both of which shape the inner orientation of a believer. The relevance of the concept of sincerity in Islamic religious education is evident in the importance of character formation, sincerity in learning, and teacher role models. Amidst the culture of image and worldly orientation in modern education, the value of sincerity becomes a spiritual foundation that directs students towards intrinsic motivation and moral behavior. This finding confirms that the concept of sincerity according to Al-Ghazali is very important for building Islamic education that is oriented towards purifying the soul, sincerity of worship, and the formation of civilized human beings. Abstract

This study examines the moral crisis in the era of digital globalization from the perspectives of Islamic creed (aqidah), ethics (akhlaq), and human rights (HAM). Using a qualitative approach with a library research design, this study analyzes various relevant academic sources to understand the dynamics of moral transformation influenced by technological advancement and global values. The findings indicate that digital globalization has significantly contributed to the shift of moral values, characterized by increasing individualism, permissiveness, and the weakening of ethical awareness in social interactions. In the Islamic perspective, such a crisis is closely related to the weakening of aqidah as the fundamental basis of moral behavior. Furthermore, the study reveals that while human rights principles share common ground with Islamic values in promoting justice and human dignity, differences arise in interpreting the concept of freedom. Therefore, a proportional and contextual understanding is necessary to harmonize these perspectives. This study concludes that strengthening aqidah, revitalizing Islamic moral values, and reinterpreting human rights within an Islamic framework are essential strategies to address moral challenges in the digital age. The integration of these elements provides a comprehensive approach to developing ethical awareness in contemporary society.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic creed (ʿaqidah) in addressing the challenges of religious radicalism in the modern era. As the foundation of a Muslim’s faith, ʿaqīdah plays a strategic role in shaping a moderate, tolerant, and compassionate mindset aligned with the principle of rahmatan lil ‘alamin (mercy to all creation). Using a library research method, this study explores scholarly journals and official documents that discuss the relationship between creed and deradicalization. The findings reveal that a properly taught and contextualized Islamic creed can serve as a strong ideological shield against radical influences by emphasizing core values such as monotheism, justice, mercy, and balance. However, the study is limited by its lack of empirical data, such as fieldwork or interviews with religious leaders and educators. Therefore, the study recommends that relevant stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Education, Islamic educational institutions, and religious scholars, integrate moderate Islamic teachings into curricula, teacher training, and digital religious discourse. A multi-sectoral synergy is essential to strengthen the religious resilience of the Muslim community and prevent the spread of extremist ideologies, thereby fostering a peaceful, inclusive, and religiously harmonious society

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine students' perceptions of learning evaluation in the Introduction to Ushul Fiqih course at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, focusing on the forms of evaluation, its effectiveness and relevance, and the factors shaping students' perceptions. While previous studies have largely examined student perceptions of technology-based evaluation media, this study looks at a course that requires conceptual and interpretive reasoning in Islamic law. Methods – This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects were 10 students selected purposively from Classes A, C, and D. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participatory observation, and documentation. Data analysis used the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, and data validity was checked through source and technique triangulation, member checking, and discussion with the research supervisor. Findings – The results show that students have a positive perception of the resume assignment as the main form of evaluation in the midterm exam, as it helps reinforce their conceptual understanding and produces notes they can use later. Even so, students feel this format is not enough to measure analytical and applicative skills, so they suggested other formats such as oral presentations, case studies, and formative quizzes. Students' perceptions are also shaped by internal factors, external factors, and the classroom environment.Research Implications – These findings suggest that evaluation in conceptually demanding courses like Ushul Fiqih needs to go beyond reproduction-based tasks and move toward authentic assessment principles and the CIPP model, particularly by strengthening the input and process dimensions through ongoing formative assessment.
