Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas representasi peristiwa sejarah kota Rotterdam dalam lirik lagu “Rotterdam” (2000) karya Frederique Spigt. Lirik lagu tersebut akan dianalisis makna denotatif dan makna konotatifnya menggunakan metode kualitatif, konteks historis dan teori semiotika Roland Barthes. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini yaitu bagaimana karya seni lagu dapat merepresentasikan peristiwa sejarah sebuah kota? adapun pertanyaan penelitiannya bagaimana representasi peristiwa-peristiwa sejarah kota Rotterdam dalam lirik lagu ‘Rotterdam’ karya Frederique? Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan makna-makna yang mengandung konteks sejarah kota Rotterdam pada lirik lagu tersebut. Hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa peristiwa sejarah tidak hanya terdapat pada dokumen-dokumen sejarah, tetapi juga bisa terdapat pada lirik lagu, seperti isi dari lirik lagu Rotterdam ini yang mengandung peristiwa-peristiwa sejarah kota Rotterdam. Secara keseluruhan lagu ini merepresentasikan gambaran yang kompleks terkait dengan perjalanan sejarah kota Rotterdam. Melalui lirik lagu penulis lirik merepresentasikan gambaran penderitaan, kemalangan, dan perubahan yang dialami kota Rotterdam.

Abstract

Film adalah salah satu jenis karya sastra yang digunakan sebagai media untuk memberi gambaran fenomena di masyarakat. Remaja merupakan bagian dari kelompok masyarakat yang tidak dapat dipisahkan. Kehidupan remaja di Belanda dituangkan dalam sebuah film berdurasi 100 menit berjudul Wij karya Rene Eller yang dirilis pada tahun 2018. Permasalahan yang dibahas pada penelitian ini adalah penggambaran kenakalan remaja dalam film Wij (2108) dan representasinya di masyarakat Belanda. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk memaparkan bentuk-bentuk kenakalan remaja dalam film Wij (2018) serta perbandingan penggambarannya dalam film dengan realita di masyarakat Belanda. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teori sosiologi sastra Sapardi Djoko Damono serta Wellek dan Warren. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan pendapat dan pemikiran dari beberapa peneliti sosial Belanda antara lain; Van der Laan dalam penelitiannya mengenai penurunan kenakalan remaja di Belanda, serta Grasmeijer yang meneliti pengaruh keluarga terhadap perilaku antisosial remaja. Berdasarkan analisa yang telah dilakukan, ditemukan bentuk-bentuk kenakalan remaja dalam film Wij (2018) yaitu; mabuk minuman beralkohol, penganiayaan, prostitusi remaja, dan kejahatan properti. Analisa yang dilakukan membuktikan bahwa film Wij (2018) merepresentasikan kehidupan remaja di masyarakat Belanda. Film sebagai ceriman kehidupan sosial masyarakat tidak hanya menampilakan sisi baik, tetapi juga sisi buruk dalam bentuk kenakalan remaja.

Abstract

Indonesia telah memproklamasikan kemerdekaannya pada 17 Agustus 1945. Pasca kemerdekaan, Belanda masih menduduki beberapa wilayah di Indonesia. Kedudukan Belanda di Indonesia sangat historis dan sudah banyak produser film yang menggunakan latar belakang kolonialisme Belanda di Indonesia. Salah satunya adalah film De Oost (2020) yang merupakan film berlatar belakang era pendudukan Belanda pasca kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia pada tahun 1946. Film ini menceritakan mengenai tokoh utama bernama Johan de Vries yang merupakan seorang tentara dan ditugaskan di Semarang. Penelitian ini membahas dinamika kepribadian Johan de Vries menggunakan teori psikoanalisis Sigmund Freud dan teori kepribadian William Mc Dougall. Metodologi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif. Rumusan permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimana dinamika kepribadian tokoh Johan de Vries dalam film De Oost? Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan dinamika kepribadian tokoh utama. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan adanya dinamika kepribadian Johan de Vries yang terdiri dari id menjadi ego dan id ke ego menjadi superego. Dorongan id akan dipenuhi oleh unsur ego dan superego muncul karena nilai dan moral yang berlaku dalam lingkup sosial Johan de Vries.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of multiculturalism within the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands based on the film Meskina (2021) by Daria Bukvic. The research question in this study is how multiculturalism is represented through the lives of the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands in the film Meskina (2021). This study using a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the representation of multiculturalism in the film. Meskina, a romantic comedy film, portrays the dynamics of the Moroccan diaspora community in the Netherlands, particularly focusing on millennial women or the second generation living amid Dutch multiculturalism, as seen from the perspective of the main character. Using Stuart Hall’s theory of representation and Aart van Zoest’s semiotics, this study reveals the shift in cultural values between the first and second generations of the Moroccan diaspora, especially in aspects of marriage, career, language use, and clothing style. The first generation is portrayed as holding firmly to their traditional values or cultural roots, while the second generation is more integrated into their surroundings but faces challenges in balancing Dutch culture with their original cultural identity. The purpose of this study is to describe the authentic representation of multiculturalism within the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands as depicted in the film Meskina. The findings conclude that Meskina successfully represents the life and cultural dynamics of the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands in accordance with today’s reality.

Abstract

Film is a form of visual art that can shape public perceptions of various aspects of life, including social and cultural issues. One of the recurring themes in film is colonialism, which often represents issues such as racism and social stratification. These themes are reflected in the film Zoete Dromen (2023), directed by Ena Sendijarević, with a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes. The film narrates a conflict over inheritance within a sugar plantation-owning family, in which the entire estate is left to a child born from a relationship with a concubine. The research problem addressed in this study is: how is the representation of social stratification constructed in the film Zoete Dromen (2023) by Ena Sendijarević? The aim of this study is to describe the general depiction of social stratification in Zoete Dromen (2023) by analyzing the dialogue and visual elements among the characters. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method. It is grounded in Max Weber’s concept of social stratification, particularly his definitions of social class, social honor, and power. The concept of social stratification is further supported by Stuart Hall’s theory of cultural representation through the constructionist approach. The findings of this study indicate that the film portrays power as the central element of social relations, representing indigenous identity through language, symbols, and power dynamics. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of indigenous identity within the broader framework of social stratification as depicted in the film Zoete Dromen (2023).

Abstract

The film Crypto Boy (2023), directed by Shady El-Hamus has received many interesting reviews from film critics. This film raises issues about crypto investment, which is currently popular among modern society. Cryptocurrency is digital money used for online payments, and crypto transactions are always conducted through a system called “blockchain”. Blockchain is a secure and organized pathway that ensures every crypto transaction is properly recorded and protected. This film tells the story of Amir’s life as a courier who dreams of success through the world of cryptocurrency. In his journey to explore the world of crypto, Amir eventually fell victim to a crypto investment scam. The various challenges that arose from this situation contributed to the changes in Amir’s personality. The research question is: How are the personality dynamics of the main character in the film Crypto Boy (2023) by Shady El-Hamus? The purpose of this research is to describe the personality dynamics of the main character, Amir. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The theory used is Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory of the id, ego, and superego. That psychoanalytic theory is also supported by William McDougall’s opinion, which discusses basic human instincts. The results of this research show that there are changes in Amir’s personality traits, namely from id to ego, id to ego then to superego, id to superego, and id to superego then to ego. Personality changes in the main character can make a film interesting to watch. This is because these changes can present an emotional journey, present meaningful conflicts, reflect human reality, and strengthen the film’s moral message. This research presents a deeper understanding of the personality changes of the main character in the film Crypto Boy (2023)..
