Abstract

This research aims to determine the level of science literacy skills of students in X class at high schools in Yogyakarta City in the subject of biology based on PISA science literacy indicators. This research is a quantitative descriptive study using the survey method. The data collection technique used tests in the form of questions based on science literacy indicators in the competency aspect. The data analysis technique is inferential statistics with non-parametric statistics using the Kruskal-Wallis test to determine whether there are significant differences in each school. The research results show that the science literacy skills of public high school students in Yogyakarta City are in the low category with an average score of 57,88%. Further tests indicate significant differences among each school.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of learning styles and self-efficacy on the learning experiences of students in the Biology Education Study Program. The background of this research is based on the importance of understanding the variation in individual characteristics in the learning process, as different learning styles can influence how students receive, process, and remember information. Meanwhile, self-efficacy serves as an internal factor that determines students' belief in their ability to effectively complete academic tasks. This research uses an associative quantitative approach with the Partial Least Square (SmartPLS) method to analyze the relationships between variables. Data was collected by distributing a Likert-scale questionnaire to Biology Education students. The research results show that all indicators have outer loading values above 0.70, thus meeting the criteria for convergent validity and construct reliability. Evaluation of the structural model (inner model) shows that learning style has a positive and significant effect on learning experience (t = 4.560; p = 0.000), and self-efficacy also has a positive and significant effect on learning experience (t = 7.375; p = 0.000). This indicates that students with a suitable learning style and high self-efficacy have a more positive and meaningful learning experience. These findings confirm the importance of the role of lecturers in designing learning strategies that are adaptive to students' learning styles and in promoting self-efficacy to improve overall student engagement and learning outcomes

Abstract

The development of Information Technology in recent years has been very rapid, including the development of social media. Almost all layers of society use social media, and in today's life, it is difficult to be separated from social media. However, this development does not match the understanding of healthy social media usage. Not a few, in fact many, members of society have encountered legal cases due to a lack of understanding of how to use social media. Some become victims and perpetrators without realizing it; some people become victims because they are not proficient in technology, while others become victims or even perpetrators due to not understanding the legal rules. This results in legal consequences that will have broad impacts, not only on the children and their families but also on the victims and society. This legal counseling collaborates knowledge of technology and legal understanding, so it is expected to provide understanding to all teenagers at SMA N 5 Batanghari. About Ethical and Law-Based Social Media Education. Providing understanding to students of SMA N 5 Batanghari about a healthy digital culture: healthy and law-based social media education and providing understanding of preventive measures to avoid becoming victims or perpetrators of criminal acts in the future.

Abstract

Biology learning, particularly the abstract topic of the Excretory System, demands high visualization, which is often lacking in conventional media. This Research and Development (RD) study, utilizing the ADDIE model and focusing on the validation stage, aimed to develop and assess the academic feasibility of a digital learning medium based on Lecture Maker software. Following a thorough analysis of curriculum objectives and student needs, the product was designed to integrate text, images, animations, and videos to present complex physiological concepts. Product validity was rigorously assessed by both subject matter and media experts, yielding an average total score of 4.15, which categorizes the medium as "Valid". Detailed results showed high scores for design/structure (4.19) and language (4.50), while the content/substance aspect received the lowest rating (Sufficiently Valid, 3.76), indicating specific areas for revision concerning the simplification of scientific language and enhanced visualization. In conclusion, the developed Lecture Maker-based medium is declared academically feasible and valid, fulfilling the criteria for quality educational media and is ready to be utilized in the subsequent implementation stage to assess its practical effectiveness on student learning outcomesKeywords:  Lecture Maker,  Learning Media,  Excretory System,  Validation,  ADDIE Model

Abstract

The accuracy of laboratory equipment use and phytochemical testing determines the validity of local plant analysis, particularly for Baccaurea macrocarpa. This study aimed to evaluate practicum students’ skills in using laboratory equipment and conducting phytochemical tests as performance indicators. A descriptive quantitative design involved 30 participants assessed on nine criteria: digital balance, measuring cylinder, pipette, funnel, timer, alkaloid test, flavonoid test, saponin test, and triterpenoid/steroid test. Each criterion was scored on a 1–5 scale. Results showed an average total score of 34.8, with the following distribution: Accurate 53.33%, Less Accurate 26.67%, and Highly Accurate 20.00%. Students in the “Less Accurate” category struggled with precision tools (digital balance, pipette) and interpretation in phytochemical assays (saponin, triterpenoid/steroid). This study concludes that laboratory skills and phytochemical test accuracy can serve as performance indicators in the analysis of Baccaurea macrocarpa.

Abstract

Background: Low student motivation and learning outcomes in biology remain a challenge in the learning process, particularly in complex topics such as the respiratory system. The use of interactive learning media is considered a potential strategy to enhance student engagement and understanding. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Lecture Maker interactive media on students’ motivation and learning outcomes in the respiratory system topic. Methods: The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. The participants consisted of 50 eleventh-grade students divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data on learning motivation were collected using a questionnaire, while learning outcomes were measured through achievement tests. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Results: The results showed that students who learned using Lecture Maker interactive media had significantly higher motivation and learning outcomes compared to those who learned using conventional methods. These findings indicate that the use of Lecture Maker interactive media can effectively enhance students’ motivation and improve their learning outcomes in respiratory system learning. Therefore, interactive multimedia-based learning is recommended as an alternative approach to support biology learning in schools.
