Abstract

Teachers' understanding and skills in developing teaching materials are absolute requirements that teachers must have. In reality, the understanding and skills of junior high school mathematics teachers in South Lampung in developing teaching materials, especially geometry, are still low. This has implications for the low quality of learning which has an impact on students' low geometry abilities. One of the geometric materials is circles. The teacher views that circle material only contains a collection of formulas so that learning is mechanistic and dogmatic. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out training to improve the understanding and skills of junior high school mathematics teachers in South Lampung in developing circle teaching materials. This activity involved 26 junior high school mathematics teachers in South Lampung as participants. This training method takes the form of presenting material and workshops. Activities are carried out through presentation of material, discussion, group work and presentation of work results. Activity data is in the form of teacher understanding and skill scores in developing circle teaching materials obtained through pretest and posttest. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics. The results of data analysis show that as many as 80% of teachers have initial understanding and skills that are not yet good. After attending the training, as many as 96.15% of teachers had relatively high levels of understanding and skills. Thus, this training is effective in increasing teachers' understanding and skills in developing circle teaching materials.

Abstract

Kemampuan numerasi merupakan kompetensi penting dalam pembelajaran matematika dan kehidupan sehari-hari. Berbagai hasil asesmen menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan numerasi siswa Indonesia masih relatif rendah, khususnya pada aspek penalaran dan pemecahan masalah kontekstual. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tren penelitian dan faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi kemampuan numerasi siswa Indonesia pada periode 2020–2024 melalui pendekatan Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Metode penelitian menggunakan protokol PRISMA dengan sumber data dari Google Scholar, Dimensions, dan Web of Science. Sebanyak 30 artikel terpilih dianalisis menggunakan analisis tematik dan analisis bibliometrik dengan bantuan perangkat lunak VOSviewer. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terbentuknya empat klaster utama, yaitu: (1) interpretasi data dan literasi matematika, (2) numerasi berbasis konteks kehidupan nyata, (3) model dan strategi pembelajaran, serta (4) faktor kognitif dan afektif siswa. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa siswa masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menafsirkan data, menghubungkan konsep matematika dengan konteks nyata, serta menentukan strategi penyelesaian masalah. Model pembelajaran kontekstual dan berbasis masalah terbukti berkontribusi positif terhadap peningkatan numerasi siswa, meskipun dipengaruhi oleh kesiapan guru dan desain pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa peningkatan kemampuan numerasi memerlukan pendekatan pembelajaran yang terintegrasi antara aspek pedagogis, kognitif, dan afektif.                          Numeracy is a fundamental competence in mathematics learning and everyday problem-solving. Assessment results indicate that Indonesian students’ numeracy skills remain relatively low, particularly in reasoning and contextual problem-solving. This study aims to analyze research trends and key factors influencing Indonesian students’ numeracy skills from 2020 to 2024 using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The study applied the PRISMA protocol with data sources from Google Scholar, Dimensions, and Web of Science. A total of 30 selected articles were analyzed using thematic analysis and bibliometric mapping with VOSviewer. The results revealed four main research clusters: (1) data interpretation and mathematical literacy, (2) real-life context-based numeracy, (3) learning models and instructional strategies, and (4) cognitive and affective factors. Findings indicate that students commonly experience difficulties in interpreting data, connecting mathematical concepts to real-life contexts, and selecting appropriate problem-solving strategies. Contextual and problem-based learning models contribute positively to improving numeracy skills, although their effectiveness depends on teachers’ readiness and instructional design. This study concludes that improving numeracy skills requires an integrated approach combining pedagogical, cognitive, and affective dimensions.

Abstract

The low level of mathematical literacy among Indonesian students remains a significant challenge, as evidenced by PISA and national assessment results. Although ethnomathematics has been widely recognized as a promising approach to contextualize mathematics learning, studies that specifically develop mathematical literacy tasks based on traditional games and examine their validity, practicality, and effectiveness are still limited. In particular, the integration of traditional games such as "Engklek" and "Congklak" into mathematical literacy task design has not been extensively explored. This study aims to develop mathematical literacy tasks using the context of the traditional games "Engklek" and "Congklak" that meet the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. Employing a design research methodology with a development study approach, this study adopted a formative evaluation model consisting of self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one, small-group, and field test stages The subjects were junior high school students in Bandar Lampung. Data were collected through walkthroughs, documentation, observations, interviews, and tests, then analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. The results show that the developed tasks achieved a high level of validity based on expert judgment, with consistent agreement across content, construct, and language aspects. The tasks were also found to be practical, as indicated by students’ positive responses and their ability to engage with the tasks during trials. Furthermore, the field test revealed an improvement in students’ mathematical literacy performance, particularly in formulating, employing, and interpreting mathematical problems within real-life contexts. Therefore, it can be concluded that the ethnomathematics-based mathematical literacy tasks developed in this study are valid, practical, and effective, and suitable for supporting students’ development of mathematical literacy.

Abstract

Previous studies indicate that the SOLO taxonomy is an effective framework for assessing the depth of students’ understanding. However, few studies have explicitly examined the interplay between the structural complexity of student responses and the underlying analytical thinking processes in mathematical literacy problem-solving. Operationally, this interplay refers to how a student’s structural response complexity (SOLO levels) is governed and facilitated by their procedural analytical dimensions (differentiating, organizing, attributing). This study aims to explore this relationship by describing junior high school students’ analytical thinking within the SOLO framework. Employing a qualitative descriptive-exploratory design, five eighth-grade students from a junior high school in Bandar Lampung were purposively selected to represent each SOLO level. Data were gathered through a mathematical literacy test consisting of three non-routine open-ended tasks focusing on space, shape, and change contexts, combined with task-based interviews. Results revealed a significant mechanism: pre-structural students failed to differentiate relevant information, while uni-structural students exhibited partial differentiation but lacked organization. Multi-structural students began organizing information, though it remained fragmented, causing cognitive stagnation. In contrast, relational students effectively organized and initiated attributing, whereas extended abstract students demonstrated full mastery of all analytical aspects. These findings indicate that higher SOLO levels are a direct manifestation of enhanced analytical thinking abilities in connecting and evaluating complex mathematical information. The study highlights that fostering this operational engine is crucial in designing instruction that moves beyond procedural drills toward robust mathematical literacy.
