Abstract

This study aimed to determine the implementation of the Role Playing method in improving students' learning activeness in Indonesian language learning for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 101789 Marindal I. The study employed Classroom Action Research (CAR) using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, consisting of two cycles involving planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 32 fifth-grade students. Data were collected through teacher activity observation sheets, student learning activeness observation sheets, learning achievement tests, and documentation. The findings revealed that the implementation of the Role Playing method improved the quality of the learning process in each cycle. Teacher performance improved from the "poor" category in the pre-cycle to the "good" category in Cycle I and reached the "very good" category in Cycle II. Students' learning activeness also increased across all observed indicators, including attention, participation, confidence in performing roles, communication skills, group collaboration, and reflective ability. In addition, students' learning outcomes improved, with all students achieving the minimum mastery criteria by the end of Cycle II. Therefore, the Role Playing method proved effective in improving both students' learning activeness and learning outcomes in Indonesian language learning for fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 101789 Marindal I
