Abstract

Abstract This research was aimed to improve students’ speaking performance by using videoblogging to Year 11 Students of SMAK Immanuel Pontianak especially on E class inacademic year 2018/2018. It was focused to improve their fluency and accuracy by usingvideo blogging as media. The research design of this study was classroom action research.The 38 students of class XI E were participating in this research. The researcher observedthe students’ improvement in speaking by collecting data through observation checklist,field notes and speaking test. The students’ attitude towards the learning process wasgathered by observation checklist and field note. The data of speaking was obtained byspeaking test which was assessed through scoring rubric. Based on the data, the studentsshowed improvement in the process of speaking. In the cycle I, they were already great inpresenting the materials but some of the students were still making some pauses and wrongpronounciation. The researcher conducted the cycle II which resulted that, the studentscould speak more fluently and accurately by gathering and listening the information fromthe media. The students also got motivation to speak during the teaching and learningactivity. From all of the result, it can be inferred that video blogging improve students’speaking performance.. Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this study was to measure the frequency of students’ participation and factors affecting the participation and conducted using a descriptive method. The researcher used 2 categories of the questionnaire with 28 closed questions, observation and interview. The questions were put in Ratio Scale focusing on the students' opinion toward their participation. The observation was done twice in two weeks and continued to interview section where 10 students were taken to be interviewed. The study took place in SMKK Immanuel Kubu Raya and the participants were thirty-eight students from grade XII Marketing. The data was analyzed using formulas designed for counting the frequency of participation. For observation and interview, the analysis was done by coding and classification. Based on the calculation, the score showed  that the students’ participation tended to be normal to high. Factors affecting the students were divided into 3 areas; psychological, environmental and linguistic factors consisted of the lack of vocabulary followed by topical knowledge which affect the students the most. In conclusion, the students have good participation in English but are still affected by their vocabulary mastery and topical knowledge. Keywords: Factors Affecting Students’ Low Participation, English Speaking Subject, Participation
