Abstract

                         AbstractThis research was motivated there uniqueness The people of Medan Jaya Village, Simpang Hilir district, Kayong Utara Regency used their waiting time for the durian to fall by playing music and dancing, emerging a local art called Nyantuk Durian. The study aims at describing the structure and function of Nyantuk Durian music. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with a musicology approach. The data were collected using interviews, observations, and documentation. Along with the interview guide, observation, and documentation sheets, the researcher acted as the main research instrument. The data validation used were extended observation and source triangulation. The results showed that Nyantuk Durian art did not function as a ritual medium but as a medium of entertainment, information, and education. The music instruments used were gambus, accordion, tambourine, beruas, cymbal, and tambourine. The melody in the gambus and accordion comprises a limited scale comprising five sentences. The beats pattern on tambourines, cymbals, tambourines, and beruas has a simple, short, and repetitive pattern. Mainly functioned as entertainment, Nyantuk Durian has a broad structure of music. In conclusion, the government and the local community should jointly preserve and develop Nyantuk Durian art to be introduced to the next generation.Keywords: Structure, Music, Nyantuk Durian.
