Abstract

The focus of this paper is the analysis of the context of the book of Nahum 1:1-8, with the aim of exploring the understanding of the historical, social, and theological background that influenced the writing and message of this book. Which text Nahum 1:1-8 is one of the texts in the Old Testament that prophesies about Nineveh. The analytical method used is a literature study by exploring the Cultural and Social Context of the text, so that readers can understand how Assyrian culture and society play a role in the narrative and how that culture influences their depiction in the book, so that it will appear on the surface that the social impact that occurred in the city of Nineveh was that the city was identified as going to fall. Finally, this analysis finds how this book reflects the views of Israelite society about power and destruction. The relevance of this writing provides insight into the historical and social context of that time, especially regarding the cruelty of the Assyrian empire and the feelings of the oppressed people. This is intended to invite the wise reader to find God in every event in life, especially in times of trouble. Because God pays attention to those who sincerely seek and believe in Him. Readers can learn from the Israelites, how they realized that God is the basis of hope, the guarantor in various difficulties, especially when experiencing injustice.

Abstract

This study examines the tradition of Baremah Adat Binua Dait of the Dayak tribe in Bareh Hamlet, West Kalimantan, as well as its integration with Catholic teachings in the context of Gaudium et Spes Art. 40. The background of this research began with the interaction between local culture and Catholicism among the Dayak people, who have long followed the Baremah tradition as part of their cultural identity. The issue raised is how elements of Baremah culture are adapted within the framework of the Catholic faith, especially in the perspective of the inculturation stated in the Gaudium et Spes document. The purpose of this research is to understand the process of syncretism that occurs between the Dayak tradition and Catholicism. The method used is a qualitative approach with interviews, observations, and documentation analysis. The results of the study show that various aspects of the Baremah tradition have been adapted to Catholic teachings, such as the use of the term "Jubata" which is recognized as God in the Catholic context. This process reflects the dynamics of syncretism that includes dialogue and adaptation between local culture and religious teachings. This research provides insight into how cultural identity can be maintained in the context of new religions, as well as the impact of syncretism on the religious experience of the Dayak community.

Abstract

This article focuses on Dayak slogans that are now emerging to the surface. This research explores the relationship between cultural traditions, scripture, and moral principles that develop among Dayak people. The novelty of this research is that it offers an intertextual way of reading, namely how Catholics read sacred texts by living them in their cultural context in social life which is so closely related to the ancestral tradition of living in harmony between tribes. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method. The analysis was conducted to understand how local cultural values are integrated with religious teachings in the context of daily life. The findings of the study prove that the Dayak people are able to transform the tradition of violence and shamanism into a motto of unity (Adil ka' Talino), which reflects universal goodness and justice and abandons evil things that harm fellow humans. Thus, life must be harmonious and peaceful (Ba' curamin ka' Saruga). The value of Ba'sengat ka' Jubata reflects a higher spiritual consciousness, where people are completely dependent on the God they call (Jubata), because this life breathes from His power. This motto not only serves as a cultural identity but also as a tool to build social harmony in the midst of the diversity that exists in Kalimantan.
